Today on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, we're going to review and install the Putco bumper insert, part number P87195. Now here's what the Putco insert's going to look like once it's installed. The insert itself is steel and has a really nice painted finished to resist rust and corrosion. Not only does it dress up the front of our truck and really make it look good, but it provides additional protection from things such as road debris, rocks and such from getting through the opening here in the bumper to our cooler. Now let's go ahead and show you just how easy it is to install. To begin our install, we're going to go ahead and open up the hood. We need to remove the fasteners here for the front cover.
To do that we're just going to take our flat blade screwdriver, we'll get underneath the center of the fastener, pry it up, then remove it completely. Now I can go ahead and repeat this same process for the other 11 fasteners. Now once we have all the fasteners removed, we can go ahead and take the cover off and set it aside for installation later. Next we'll remove the four 10 millimeter screws across the top of the grill. All right, now we're going to pull the grill out, away from the front of the truck and release any fasteners underneath. Once we have all of the fasteners popped free, we can go ahead and take the grill off the front of the truck.
As we turn it over, we can see the fasteners that we're securing it underneath. Now our grill insert's going to have a total of four attaching points. The lower two attachment points are going to reuse two of the manufacturer's bolts. They are here just at the bottom of the opening in the bumper, approximately four inches from the corner on each side. Now the head of each of these bolts, it's just a 10 millimeter. We'll hang on to the manufacturer's hardware as it will get reused for installing the insert. Now our top attaching points are going to reuse pre-drilled holes in the sheet metal, approximately two inches from the opening in the bumper.
To create this attaching point, we're going to use the clip nut provided. It'll slide over the sheet metal and lock into place at the pre-drilled hole. Then once our insert is installed, we'll put in the bolt and split lock washer. Keep in mind our attachment points here on one side will get repeated identically on the opposite side. We're now ready to install the insert. The insert will slide in just behind the bumper.
Be careful to work it in place, to not damage the cooler. Now once we set the insert in place, we'll go ahead and install our hardware. Got our new bolt going into the clip nut here at the top fastener, get it started hand tight first. Then reuse the manufacturer's bolt for the bottom fastener. Once we have all our hardware in place, we'll go ahead and tighten it down. We're now ready to go ahead and reinstall the grill. Just like that, our insert is installed, we're ready to hit the road. That will do it for the Putco Bar Style Bumper Insert, part number P87195 on our 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500.

No one likes to take apart brand new product to install something that should of come from the factory anyway. So hats off to Putco for filling this void. Mailing and packaging was perfect. Fit up on the truck was perfect. Really, the only way this could've been easier is if they sent someone along to install it. There was 2 extra small 7mm bolts at the top outside wings of the grill at the top out side of the 4 top bolts, not shown in the instructions. See ratchet in photos. Perhaps the factory added these on later to the 2016. Added bug screen over radiator and oil cooler at this point.
Fits good. If mounting tabs were stronger and it didn't rest on the plastic slightly I would give it a excellent review. Will see how it holds up over time. It does have limited lifetime warranty on the product itself not the paint. Hope I do not have to use it. Can stop worrying about a big rock smashing into the Cooler now that I have this grill installed

Holding up great. No issues.
Was a little more flimsy than I thought, for the price. On my 2015 Chev 2500 Duramax, I didn't have to use the clips included. There were already 2 bolts in that space. I do like the looks. This should stop the larger stones from taking out the cooler and/or radiator.

Working and looking good.
Does an excellent job in protecting the transmission cooler which is exposed in the bumper opening. A little bit time consuming to install, but instructions are easy to understand and it is well worth the effort.
Arrived as scheduled. Has a nice black mat finish. Installation was added by the on-line video. Was a bit concerned about pulling off the grill (thought I would break it), but no problem with a little extra pull. Didn't take long at all. Makes my 2019 2500 HD look better and will protect that transmission cooler. Only issue is the gap on each side is not equal. Could be the existing plastic inserts on the bumper.
Installed fairly easy. Fit well with no drilling required. Truck front looks much better than it did prior to the install. Quick shipment with no issues.
I purchased this transmission cooler grill for my 2016 Silverado 3500. Perfect fit, took less than one hour to install. I would recommend this Putco grill to anyone looking to protect their automatic transmission.

Pluto grill has been on my 2016 Silverado 3500 for a year and approximately 6000 miles of travel. Lokks and works as the day I installed it, and no rock chips in the finish.....very satisfied with this product
Quality built & it looks like it belongs there(GM heavy duty trucks)should have had something like this Putco grill to start with. As always etrailer’s installation video is a plus.

Great product. I don’t have to worry about a stray objects flying into the opening in my front bumper, finish is holding up well. 2018 Silverado LTZ Z71
Installed in less then forty minutes including clean up. Happy with the look. Not to happy with the cost.

This review applies to a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LT 6.0 L.
GM ought to pay for this grill because there is nothing protecting the transmission inter-cooler from road hazards, such as rocks and birds and what have you. You could lose a very expensive transmission if something punctures the system.
This Putco lower bumper grill insert is the answer. It is well made and precisely fits into the lower bumper opening. However, if you are not familiar with snap-together automotive body work, the installation could be a little scary, because you must remove the front (upper) grill and work in a very tight space.
The instructions and videos below will guide you through the process. Allow at least one hour to complete the installation. You will need a 10mm wrench or a 10mm socket and a small ratchet (a ratcheting box wrench works best) and a 7/16 wrench; a flat head screw driver; possibly a small mirror; and a good light.
I would recommend using Loctite thread lock on the four installation fasteners. You do not want to go through this whole process a second time if any of these fasteners come loose.
The finished product looks great, as if it were a factory installation. The Putco name on the lower right side of the grill is very small and hardly noticeable.
I did not give five stars because some of the pictures in the paper instructions included with the grill were kind of dark and hard to see.

Received my grill yesterday. Checked for a trial fit, looks great. Product is well made. will last the life of the truck and protect my transmission cooler from rocks and other road debris. Why Chevy leaves this radiator unprotected (so low to the pavement) I will never understand. Product looks great, is well made, and installation instructions are good. It's just more work than I planned. I highly recommend this grill.

the picture is what it is. fits as it should I have had no issues. I was worried that it might block some air flow to the trans cooler but I have not noticed any differences. it does a good job blocking just about everything that might fly through that opening.
The Putco grill fits great. The instructions for installation into my 2015 Silverado 3500 were spot on. Looks good too.
Installed rather quickly...after removing stock factory grill.instruction illustration could be upgraded but a mechanically inclined person with the right tools should have no problem.i would give the insert a 4.99999 star rateing.
Perfect fit, easy installation, took approximately 30 minutes.
Item was as ordered made of a good quality material and a arrived in a timely manner.
