A Safe Ride is a Comfortable Ride

If you're looking for the best tie-downs for your camper, frame-mounted is the way to go. The frame is the most solid part of your entire vehicle, so it just makes sense to attach your camper to something that's not going to warp, bend, or twist. Even more importantly, the camper's center of gravity will sit lower and its weight will be spread across the entire bed. This avoids a top-heavy load perched on top of your bed rails that's liable to sway and get pushed around by crosswinds. The camper's not going to shift or slide around while you drive; it's going to stay put, and your truck is going to handle just like it does without a camper.

Quick Tip: If you have a plastic or spray-in bed liner, it's important that you use a rubber mat under the camper to eliminate any sliding or bouncing.

Don't Ruin Your Truck's Looks

how will tork lift tie downs look on my truck

Frame-mounted tie-downs are also a great pick for preserving your truck's good looks. The brackets install on the frame, tucked nearly flush with the underside of the vehicle. Remove the arms from the brackets when you're not hauling your camper, and the brackets will be barely visible.

Custom Fit, No-Drill Installation

Completely custom to your vehicle, the tie-downs attach to exisiting holes in your frame so that there's little to no drilling and no need for any modifications. Because they're custom, you'll want to use our in-house application guide to make sure you get the exact right model. The tie-downs you need might be different depending on what type of hitch or other accessories you have.

Securing Your Camper

TorkLift Tie Down Example

Once the tie-downs are installed, use a set of turnbuckles (sold separately) to secure the camper to the tie-downs. The shank on each arm has 2 pin holes so you can choose how far out they extend, that way the turnbuckles can reach the anchors on your camper without making contact with your truck. Tighten the turnbuckles to the correct level of tension (not too tight!).

where to put camper tie downs

Make sure the anchor points are offset from the tie-downs instead of lined up with them so that they will hold your camper from multiple angles. This is important for keeping your camper from shifting. Two holes in the attachment plate of the tie-downs let you find the best angle for you camper anchors.

Video Transcript for Torklift Custom Frame-Mounted Camper Tie-Downs Installation - 2015 Ram 3500

Clayton: Hey guys, how's it going Clayton here at etrailer.com. And today, we'll be taking a look at and I'll show you how to install, the Torklift rear mount camper tie-downs on our 2015 Ram 3500. These braces are going to allow us to attach our in-bed campers to our truck's frame. These tie-downs are really nice because they're adjustable. So if our tie-down's for our camper are a little bit narrow, we can put it here. And then if our camper's more wide, we can slide these arms out and attach it here.As you can see, there's quite a bit of adjustability.

These are going to be a steel construction so they're going to hold up well over time. They are finished in a black powder coat finish, so you don't have to worry about any rust or corrosion over time as well. These do mount right up to our frame so they are going to be really strong. We are going to have two holes here for tie-downs as well. So wherever our camper falls, we can make sure to get a really strong connection. These are really nice because when we're not hauling your camper, we can simply pull our arms out, and we're not going to have anything sticking out from the side of our truck.

Our tube here is pretty visible, but again, we don't have to worry about our arm sticking out of our bumper. In terms of an installation, getting these put on really isn't that bad. It's three or four bolts, pretty easy to mount up. We didn't have to do any drilling. So speaking of installation, I'll go ahead and show you how we got ours installed. To start our installation, we're going to be working right back here in the corner of our frame.

We're going to be working right where our bumper beam attaches to our frame rail. We're going to be removing these three bolts here. I do suggest using penetrating oil and at least cleaning it up a little bit before, just to make it easier to work with. Now, these are all 21 millimeters, and I do suggest breaking them loose with a breaker bar. They are going to be pretty tight because they're holding on our bumper.

I went ahead and broke ours loose. Now we'll take them off with an impact. And these will be getting reinstalled. Our instructions don't mention this, but there is a wiring harness right here. We do have to remove this to get our bracket installed. We're just going to grab a trim panel tool and pop this one clip out. With that clip removed, we can get our bracket fully mounted inside of our frame. I do suggest spraying out the holes with some lubricant and maybe a wire brush depending on how dirty they are. This is just going to help those bolts thread in a lot easier. We're now ready to grab our bracket. We can lift it up into place.I'm going to start this second bolt up here. I just want to push the bolt through and start to get it threaded to where it can support itself. Then we'll come back and add the rest of our hardware. It is important to leave these hand tight. That way we can get the hardware added to the back of our bracket. We're going to be reinstalling these bolts in the same locations that we took them off. For our other hardware, we need to grab our carriage bolt, our spiral washer, and our flat spacer. We'll put that usher on and then our spacer, then we'll lift it up.And we're going to slide it through this oval hole behind our wiring. We'll just grab it like that. On the backside, we're going to add our two flat washers like this and then our lock washer, and our hex nut on top. Go ahead and get this one hand tight. And this'll be the first one that we tightened down all the way. We'll use a 19 millimeter socket and wrench. Now we can tighten down the rest of our hardware all the way. With all of our hardware completely tightened down, we're ready to come back and torque it down. All of our torque specs will be listed in our instructions.Once we torqued everything down, we can move over to our passenger side and follow the exact same steps. We're now ready to slide in the arms for our tie-down. There are a couple different holes depending on where your camper falls. Since we don't have one on our truck now, I'm going to put it on the inside position. We'll add our pin and clip, and secure it down. With everything on and torqued down, and our tie-down arm in, that's going to complete our look and installation at the Torklift camper tie-downs for the rear on our 2015 Ram 3500.

The drivers rear didn't get built correctly. the hole to put the tie done is missing. I had to drill a hole into the tie down so I could use it. Didn't notice the problem until I went to put the camper on my pickup. The other three are fine.

    by: Craig03/25/2022

Forklift tie downs are manufactured to exact fit to existing manufactured frame rail holes. They lined up perfectly and after 6000 miles with camper on board have stayed secure. The only downside, (this is relative to when and ware you use you camper) they will corrode when driving through snow covered roads that have been treated with sand and/or salt. I use an oil based product to protect them corroding.

Easy install, very effective way to keep the camper were it's supposed to be. Just bought a new truck and ordered another set for it. As long as I have a bed mounted camper I will be using this tie down system.

    by: Jerry12/15/2018

On my 2017 Ram 2500 HD, were easier to install than the front ones because you don't have to put that bolt inside the frame. There is a standoff for a wire on each side that had to be removed, and will need to be secured with a cable tie or something (see attached picture). I had to remove my Trekstep from the driver's side, but I knew I would have to do that, so no big deal. Again, these are very sturdy, thus very heavy, and lighter aluminum tie downs might be considered to reduce weight.

I think they’re awesome… put them with the quick gun hold downs and they cant be beat. Keep the camper in place and makes it so much easier.. I own a Dodge Ram Mega cab and they were an easy install, I cant speak to the other truck manufacturers.

This products is well made. The transaction was easy and the product arrived as expected. I've been using this product for a year and I have no complaints. It has held up well and does what it was designed to do.

After two winters on the road, this product shows no sign of wear. Im happy with my purchase.

    by: JOE08/17/2020

The rear mount arrived this morning, and I immediately went to installation,,,the only thing that could have made things easier would be, if I had a more powerful air wrench to take the bolts out,,,lol.

Looks great! The quality of your product is impressive! And, to think the dealer wanted to charge me $200 to put them on.

I see these as a permanent attachments to my truck,

    by: Wilk06/27/2021

Seem like a solid well built product. A bit of a pain to install and the instructions could have been more clear and the manual put together better but overall satisfied.

    by: Jerry08/04/2023

Love the TorkLift Tie-Downs! They are rugged and make loading and unloading much easier than my old basic Tie-Downs.

    by: Bob 04/11/2024

Very stable easy to set up system

TorkLift frame mounted tie downs, Torklift Fast Gun tie downs - AWESOME! Arrived Thursday as promised, picked the new Cirrus camper this morning. Installed the frame mounted tie downs - front and back - 1hour 45 minutes. Thank you etrailer!

Easy to install and super secure! Made my Lance 1020 feel like its part of my truck. Highly recommended for the juggernaut class truck campers. I’ll never go back to the stake pocket style or bed mount tie downs again.

1 year later, Im still very pleased. Ive gotten many positive comments from people that didnt know they existed and, after talking to me, plan on upgrading themselves.

    by: Gaylen04/19/2024

Good service, haven't checked the packaging but everything looks OK from the outside.

    by: Eric A.06/29/2017

These camper tie downs have been fantastic! They were easy to install and have made securing my camper a breeze. I really like how easy it is to pull the tie down portion of the brackets out when you aren't carrying the camper. In my opinion this is the only way to secure a truck camper.

They were great. I ended up getting a different truck and bought another Torklift setup for the new truck. I couldn’t imagine using anything else for securing a truck camper.

    by: jello09/04/2022

The TorkLift frame mounted tiedowns for my truck bed camper mounted perfectly on my 2016 RAM 3500. They are holding my camper on very securely and will be tucked away nicely when I remove the camper for Winter. I plan on making a footstep to slide into the receivers then, so I have much easier access to my high truck bed when I use it to haul firewood. The only suggestion I have is that we cleaned up the punched out pin hole edges with a file, inside the receivers. The sharp ridges would have scratched the hold down assemblies a bit when inserted into the receivers. Maybe an opportunity for a manufacturing process improvement there?

    by: Nick 02/22/2024

They still work great after a year : )

    by: Clifford 03/20/2024

Easy to install whole job front and rear just under 3 hours

    by: Lawrence 09/17/2023

Perfect fit, Talked to Will on the phone and h got me the right set-up for my 2015 Dodge Ram 3500. Thanks Will.

    by: Charles06/20/2023

The only Truck Camper tie down devices that I will ever use.

    by: Bruce 10/31/2019

These are very well made. They installed easily and fit perfectly. My only concern is that the tie down/turnbuckle attachment hole is slotted and looks potentially weak as a result. I don't know that it's weak, it just looks like making it without the slot would be a lot stronger.

    Bruce

    11/4/2020

After a year, these have worked out very well. The slotted holes I was concerned about have not been a problem.

    by: 06/27/2021

These seem like a solid, well built product. Kind of a pain to install and the instruction manual could have been put together better but that’s just my two cents.

    by: Rodney 04/03/2024

    Very pleased.easy install

    by: Michael 08/18/2023

Great camper mount. Easy install, fit and finish is awesome

    by: Scott07/07/2021

It fits just beautiful and works great for my pickup camper.

    by: Kelly 04/11/2021

I am really happy with tork lift rear tie downs on my 2004 3509 Dodge Ram dually. They have worked out good for me. I did have to move my rear camper tie downs so the tie down rods would clear the fenders but overall I am very happy with the tie downs.
