E16 5th Wheel Jaw

Simple, Secure Hookup

With a dual-pivoting head that offers 10 degrees of lateral movement, the E16 fifth-wheel hitch makes hookup a snap, even on unlevel ground. Once the king pin slides into the hitch, the auto-locking, slide-bar jaw secures it in place. A unique feature of the E16 is the rear steel tension bar within the jaw that activates upon hookup to clamp down on the king pin, providing a tighter grip that maximizes security and minimizes rattle.

After ordering rails for a fifth wheel that I had in an older truck, I was told the rails I ordered would work with my fifth wheel, however after installing the front rail, the fifth wheel would not work with the rails ordered. I ended up ordering a new fifth wheel plate. That was easier than removing the frame brackets I had already installed. It appears that there was a mis communication between the person I talked to with etrailer. Instead of a 1/2 day install it took a day and a half plus wait time for the fifth wheel to get to my address. However once installed it appears to be good.

by: Park05/17/2023

The hitch worked great. Reason for the 2 stars is the package got delayed twice in transit and I had to reschedule the pickup of my fifth wheel. When I also received the package the main crossmember bar was bent at the mounting point. Luckily I was able to bend it back but UPS needs to get there act together.

by: Julio11/09/2017

Well packed, free 5 days shipping, easy to assemble and nice looking hitch. Im extra amazed because i can remove the king pin base/head from the bridge leg assembly to easily transport them. Still not tested with the coach. Practically no lateral movement and have the suspicion bushings. Very firm and easy mechanisms. Do not leave the gate open for long term because could damage the main spring. I plan to pull a 11k 334FWFLS. Nothing compared to this hitch in this price range. I will add some extra feedback after couple travels.

More than 1000 miles pulling a 38 fifth wheel and still like new

by: Kyle12/10/2023

Great price and works really well with the camper im pulling with no issues what so ever even sits low enough to have my bed cover on without removing any parts of the hitch

by: Terry03/27/2022

The hitch looks great as shipped from etrailer. The problem was UPS destroyed the package and hitch. I have just started the claims process through UPS. I have always had great success with everything coming from etrailer until now. It was obvious the box had been dropped numerous times. It had been retapped a few times trying to hold it together. The steel crossmember was bent in two directions. It cannot be used which makes this hitch worthless. I see no fault with etrailer (except I recommend putting the cardboard package inside a heavier box to help UPS prevent damage). This package is around ninety pounds shipping in a thin cardboard box. I will be ordering a new hitch from etrailer and hoping for a better shipping experience. I have to postpone my vacation due to not having a working hitch.

I have hauled a 34 foot toyhauler hundreds of miles with this hitch, very happy and would suggest it to anyone.

by: Charles03/27/2020

The hitch arrived very fast, and was boxed well. It doesn't come assembled in order to reduce the shipping size, but it's super easy to assemble. Just four 1/2" bolts attach the legs to the main crossmember, and one small 3/16" bolt attaches the lever release arm. In all, it only took about 15 minutes to assemble and set in the truck. It even comes with the hitch pins needed to install on your rails. The only thing you'll need that's not included is about 4 to 8, 1/2" washers. Very happy with the hitch, and always look to etrailer.com for my replacement hauling/trailer parts!

by: T Purdy05/30/2019

Haven't had a chance to use the hitch yet but I got it installed without too much trouble. It took about 4 hours to install, the frame mounting brackets and rails, at a leisurely pace. The unit seems to be very sturdy and it is certainly built heavy. I'm looking forward to testing it out soon.

by: Brian T07/15/2016

I bought the curt fifth wheel and base to convert my B&W turnover ball and this thing fits perfectly it went together smoothly and in under an hour easily highly reccomend

by: Jack02/20/2024

Used this 3 times and didn’t like the clunking. Should have expected the clunking with a slide bar type hitch. Purchased a Demco Recon which I like very much

by: Robert06/15/2024

Came super dry. Even after lubing it I had to hammer the crap out of it with a rubber mallet to get the slide bar jaw to open on several occasions. Seemed like lots of welding spatter left on moving parts also, so overall quality is somewhat suspect. It's a cheaper unit so you get what you pay for I suppose. While in use it works fine and allowed very little chucking.

by: Tony02/07/2019

Its a great product and with the rail kit it makes an awesome beast for towing. It has provided great service and satisfaction so far.

by: 01/26/2024

A little disappointing. The fit was good, and installation easy. But it was missing one of the critical long carriage bolts and spacer.
I didn't have time to send it back, so I had to fabricated a solution since I pick my new camper up in a few days.
Missing hardware definitely added to installation time.

by: David01/23/2024

Easy installation. Fast shipping

by: Wayne06/15/2024

I just installed the Curt E 16 fifth wheel hitch and it looks great

by: Al09/20/2020

E-trailer made the order process very easy, and the shipping was much faster than I expected. The boxes arrived in fairly good condition, but the hitch arms were scratched up due to poor internal packaging. Since the hitch was packed in an E-Trailer box, I assume they repackaged this product.
Otherwise, the Curt hitch and custom rails seem to be very good products for the money!

The E16 hitch is adequate. I get a lot of clunking when starting and stopping due to the straight locking bar style hitch. I wish now that I would have spent more money and got a hitch that had locking jaws that clamped around the pin.

by: John 05/24/2024

Now that's a hitch!! Great set up for the money!!

by: Chris 05/16/2020

It is just what I wanted, coming from the world of big trucks, I wanted a hitch that auto snaps closed, it does just that, it mounted right in my old Reese plate system on 22” center, so far I am very happy not only with the hitch, but also the price and the customer service from
E trailer, thanks for the support . Chris S.

I still love it less work for me, you back in it locks your done, and unlock is easy pull the handle never sticks love it!!!

by: Kurtis09/08/2022

The customer service with etrailer was awful. Thier system showed an incorrect part for my vehicle and they admitted that but between the shipping mess back and forth. I would of liked a discount or a faster shipment on the correct parts that were already opened and missing hardware. Never again. Good thing its only a fifth wheel assembly and doesnt require quality hardware.

by: William B01/31/2020

This hitch was very easy to put on. We use it to pull our camper several times last summer. We have not had any problems hooking or unhooking from the hitch. Looking forward to another season camping. Thanks etrailer

Still working great. We used it alot last summer and plan on putting it to good use this summer.

by: Joe T10/29/2019

First the bolts were a little short. But they quickly sent longer ones. Slightly tight fitting in bed rails. Used it once got more tight. After the second time had to use two by four to pop it out.. After a couple more tines of use it won’t budge at all. I think the hitch is spreading out. Wouldn’t have taken much to beef it up with some kid of support going across near the bottom. Not as much side to side tip of the 5th wheel plate as advertised. Get much more than 1 1/2” you have to put block under the truck wheels to get unhooked. A little forward and backward movement of 5th wheel pin but not bad. Other wise it works good.

by: Hank 12/02/2022

excellent customer service!!!! will deal with Alex again if more trailer/hitch parts are needed. Happy Hoildays to all

by: Catherine 08/15/2022

We had our other truck stolen with the 5 th wheel hitch and many other possessions in it. This company shipped us another hitch quickly for our new truck and other needed equipment we needed to get back on the road. Thank you

by: Don03/24/2022

The hitch was damaged in shipping. They replaced it quickly. Their customer service was a pleasant surprise. They also have excellent installation videos. I recommend etrailer for their prices and customer service.

by: Mark02/16/2022

Great entry level fifth wheel, I don’t use it on a daily basis but have used it enough to say it is a great entry level fifth wheel, it does have some slack because it is a slide-bar hitch, but other than that it works great with no problems.

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch For 2006 Chevy Silverado Towing A 40 15,500lb Trailer
  • While the Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16115 is technically capable of handling your new 15,500lb trailer, manufacturers recommend only using 80-85% of the hitch's total weight capacity to ensure there is a safety barrier. Since you have an ISR base rail kit your options are pretty wide, but I personally recommend the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 18,000lbs # BWRVK3255. B&W is an American made hitch and is well known for their quality. The pivot arms of this hitch can

The wedge is necessary since it keeps the king pin from rotating inside the hitch. You mentioned you had 46 inches side-to-side and I checked with Demco and the adapter is 36 inches wide so it will fit in the space you have.

  • Why Might Used Reese 16k Fifth Wheel Hitch Have Stubborn Latch Mechanism
  • Since the hitch is used I would make sure the latching mechanism is greased as well as just go over it all to make sure nothing is worn out or possibly bent. I don't know exactly which Reese 16k hitch you have so it's hard to get more specific than that but I would suspect the hitch being used and possibly not maintained/cleaned/greased is the reason the latching mechanism is a little stubborn.

  • Will Curt E16 5th Wheel Hitch Fit Reese Adapter 30156 in a 2012 Ford F-350 with Factory Prep Package
  • The frame I believe you mean is adapter # RP30156. It has 5th wheel hitch mounting slots spaced 29 and 20-1/2 inches apart on center side to side and 22 inches front to back. These are the same as the industry standard rail slot spacing so it is compatible with Curt hitch # C16115. This hitch has a slide-bar jaw which is secure but allows for a lot of movement at the king pin which will result in chucking. Shorter bed trucks require a sliding hitch like the Curt E16 # 16516 that you referenced in order to have enough turning clearance to avoid trailer-to-cab contact.
