The tailgate of a 2017 Ram 3500 does not need to be removed or replaced to tow a 5th wheel trailer. We do however have some tailgate options that allow more room for a 5th wheel or a gooseneck trailer.

I have some solutions to help your towing set-up, but there is no way to extend the pin box out an additional 8 inches to increase the distance between the back of the truck tailgate and the trailer.
It is not ideal to tow with your truck's tailgate down for the very issue you are experiencing. I do have a 5th wheel tailgate for your 2017 Ford F-350 but a 5th wheel tailgate from a 2012 Ford F-350 will not work for you nor is there a kit to convert one to the other. Your best option is to purchase the tailgate specifically designed for your truck and sell the old one to recoup some of your money.
