There are a couple ways to determine what kind of axle you have. If there aren't any part markings on the axle or anywhere else on the trailer frame that list your trailer axle specifications, you need to measure your spindle with a calipers to get a precise measurement. You will want to check the inside of the tire and if there is wear also on the inside it will be from low tire pressure. Always make sure to inflate trailer tires to the maximum psi rating listed on the tire for maximum load carrying capacity and longer life.
If the wear is just on the outside then the tire is riding at a slight angle with the bottom pointed more in toward the trailer than the top.

Typically, when the outside edges of a tire are showing wear its because the tires are under-inflated. The solution is to inflate the tires to the maximum pressure listed on the sidewall.
Now if the outside of tires have what looks like gouges are taken out of the rubber most likely it is broken suspension components or its a bent axle or spindle.
Unlike passenger vehicle tires, you always want to have trailer tires inflated to the maximum tire pressure for the best performance and wear.
