It sounds like the Curt Tail Light Converter # C56236 will definitely fix your problem. This wiring kit has provisions for a separated brake light circuit and it combines it in with the turn signals like what your standard trailer does. For this wiring kit you'll need to connect the following wires to the following functions:
Brown - Running
Green - Right Turn
Yellow - Left Turn
Red - Brake
White - Ground
Black - 12V Power (pulls power from battery to power trailer lights) view full answer...
The 7-Way to 5-Way/4-Way Trailer Adapter # C35FR is the correct adapter for connecting your 4-way trailer connector to the 7-way connector on you 2014 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter as long as your trailer has LED Lights. Usually how you know you need the adapter to run your trailer with LED lights is because of a light out warning on your vehicle that keeps your lights from working correctly.
From the description of the problem you are having, it sounds like there is an issue with the running... view full answer...
The tail lights on the back of a trailer run off of the running light circuit so the fact that the other lights on that circuit are working and most of the problems are just at the rear tail lights that makes me think there is a ground problem.
Ground problems normally show up when there is more draw on a system such as when you have the running lights on and then use another function like a turn signal or brake light but can show up any time.
Make sure that the vehicle side and trailer... view full answer...
The fact that your module only has the yellow(left turn), green(right turn) and red(brake) inputs it has no way of getting the function for the running lights off your 2013 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500. Be sure to check and see if the other wire which should go to the running lights were cut. If there is enough of the wire to splice into you will be able to rewire the missing component. Otherwise you will need to replace it with the Tekonsha T-One # 118650 so your trailers running lights... view full answer...
Optronics trailer tail light # ST5RB grounds through the mounting studs. If it is attached to aluminum or there is something in between the light and where it is mounted then that can interrupt the ground.
Make sure that the vehicle side and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside and out. The main connector grounds should be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces.
The light grounds should also be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal... view full answer...
If you are certain that the ground on the truck is the problem then what you can do is run a new ground from the back of the trailer connector directly to a clean, bare metal surface on the truck frame. Make sure the new location is free of corrosion, paint, and undercoating.
If you continue to have issues then make sure the truck and trailer side connectors are both clean and free of corrosion inside where the wires attach and on the pins.
The light grounds should also be attached... view full answer...
When turning on your 2014 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter's headlights your trailer lights stop working is an indication that you have a ground issue. When your sprinter's headlights are on the highest amperage a draw is placed on the wiring system and a faulty ground will appear. First thing you will need to do is make sure you have good metal to metal contact. If there is any paint or corrosion on the bare metal it will act as an insulator. I would check all the ground connections on the trailer... view full answer...
When installing the Tekonsha P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885, you will need to test the green plug you found under the 2010 Sprinter seat with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. You will want to make sure all of the functions exist in the wiring plug before splicing into the wiring to attach the brake controller harness.
I have attached an installation video for a brake controller on a Sprinter you can check out. The wiring should be very similar for your Sprinter. I have also attached... view full answer...
The PL error code means that there is a power interruption to the brake controller. The controller is getting enough power to illuminate the display, but not enough to correctly operate, which indicates there's something wrong on the circuit feeding power to the controller.
I'd recommend tracing the power feed from the brake controller to the battery. Ideally, you'll want the power to come directly from the positive battery terminal, this circuit should be protected by a 20 or 30 amp circuit... view full answer...
It's not uncommon for a short in the trailer wiring to take out the converter boxes of our wiring harnesses which is most likely what happened. You can test this by using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test for voltage on the input side of the box and then also the output. If it's on input but not output it's the converter and you'd have to replace the kit. view full answer...
