It does use this circuit for powering the trailer brakes though so if you are wanting to put a decent charge on your trailer brakes it would take away from that to a certain extent. A better option would be a traditional brake controller like the Brake EVN # TK63VR that way the charge circuit would not be affected.

To use the Ram controller you'd just have to unplug the trailer's 7-way from the RF and then plug that directly to the truck. Otherwise if you leave the 7-way of the trailer plugged into the RF you'd have to use it.
