I spoke with my contact at Curt about the Wiring Harness, # C55373, on your 2000 Lincoln LS. The good news is that there is nothing wrong with the wiring harness. What is happening is that on your model vehicle (and a handful of others) there is what is called a battery saver mode that kicks in about 20 minutes after the vehicle has been turned off. With the trailer connected, it thinks that it still needs to deliver power and that will cause the light to light up on the trailer.

I ran out to the warehouse and pulled one of the # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K hub/drums, which I compared with a typical idler hub with 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern for a 3500 lb axle. I found that with both hubs, the distance from the rear seal surface to the front face of the hub where the wheel would ride is 2-1/2 inches. Since I do not know which hub you are currently using, I checked a few other idler hubs, and found that the 2-1/2 inch distance or thickness was the same.

If you have no light signals at all at your 4-pole connector (no turn, tail or brake lights) then either the powered converter in this harness may have been damaged in the first installation effort, there is a faulty 12V input power connection to the converter, a bad ground connection or there is a problem within the wiring in the vehicle or trailer.

I am not sure what 2005 Lincoln you have, but if it's a 2005 Lincoln LS like what the Curt hitch part # C12253 you referenced is designed to fit the answer would be "no it could not carry a 500 lb scooter on a hitch mounted carrier."
