You should always inflate the tires for a trailer to the maximum air pressure listed on the sidewall of the tire. Under-inflating a tire will wear the outer edges of the tread. Over-inflating a tire will result in wear the center tread.

Typically, a trailer equipped with electric brakes will have either a 6 or a 7-way trailer connector. The 7-way is the most common. If you click the provided link, you can see side by side photos of both connectors.
A 4-pole or 4 wire connector like you describe would only provide trailer lighting functions.
