Often vehicle wiring colors are consistent to allow color-for-color connection of items such as the Curt Taillight Converter, part # C56175. However, this is not always the case. The wedge is required to prevent a pivot point at the 5th wheel hitch jaws. The function of a Sidewinder is to move that pivot point back further on the truck which requires blocking the pivot point at the hitch. The trailer should not be towed without the wedge in place unless the lock out bolts are installed to lock out the pivot point at the Sidewinder.

The only drilling need for the receiver hitche # C11202 available for the 2011 Nissan Cube will be enlarging an existing hole in the driver side frame rail. I attached installation instructions for this Curt Hitch, # 11202.
To drill this hole for the Curt hitch, you could drill two smaller holes next to the hole that needs to be enlarged in the frame rail to allow access of the hardware for this hitch.

We do have trailer hitch options for your 2009 Nissa Cube, but the Hidden Hitch Class III Trailer Hitch, # 87538, that you referenced will not fit on your vehicle. This hitch was designed for Nissan pickup trucks.
For your vehicle, I recommend looking at the Curt # C11202. According to Curt, this hitch will fit all models of the 2009 Nissan Cube, however they do not mention if any bumper modification is required on the models with ground effects.

When using a wireless brake controller like the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 the breakaway function is still operated by the breakaway kit and not the brake controller.
A brake controller and breakaway kit are 2 separate components although they both work with the trailer brakes, just differently. The Echo brake controller is designed to apply the brakes to the trailer when the brakes are applied to the tow vehicle and help bring both to a safe stop.
