Benefits of a Heated Engine

Start your engine easier and warm your cab faster in cold weather with this circulating tank heater. Heating your engine coolant keeps it from thickening and freezing, resulting in more reliable start-ups and smoother operation altogether. It also lessens the workload and extends the life of your vehicle's battery. And because starting your engine when it's warm creates less condensation in the engine block than starting it when it's cold, your engine will get better initial fuel vaporization, which causes fewer emissions and less pollution.

Circulating Tank Heater

This external tank heater connects to both your heater core hose and engine block drain as an effective way to heat your whole coolant system. The heated coolant pushes the cold coolant through the engine block, heater core, and radiator, and then thermosiphons it back to the heater. The heater's internal thermostat automatically shuts the heater off at 175 degrees Fahrenheit to keep the coolant at an optimal temperature, which allows it to heat safely overnight. As a result, your coolant system will be preheated for a smooth startup, your cab will heat and defrost faster, and you won't have to worry about frozen hoses.

Installation

The included fitting lets you attach this system to your engine block drain. If there is no drain in your engine block, then you can use a lower radiator hose connector (sold separately) to splice into your lower radiator hose instead. The included Y-shaped tube will connect the tank to the heater core hose that leads to your engine block, water pump, or manifold, depending on your application.

For the thermosiphon to work correctly, the tank must be positioned vertically. Use the included mounting bracket to secure the tank to your vehicle's frame rail, fender, or firewall. Once the tank is mounted and all lines are properly connected, run the power cord out through your grille so that it can be plugged into a 240-volt outlet or extension cord.

Video Transcript for Review of Kats Heaters Vehicle Heaters - Circulating Heater - KH54ZR

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we take a look at this Kat's Heaters 240 volt, 2500 watt Thermostatically Controlled Circulating Tank Heater. Now this circulating tank heater will preheat your engine block, your heater core, and your radiator in cold temperatures by heating the coolant and then circulating warm coolant throughout your system. This will help you save fuel 'cause there's no need to start and run to preheat your engine, eliminates cold start engine damage, allows the cab to heat up and defrost faster, and will even help keep your hoses from freezing. This does plug into a standard 240-volt AC outlet or an extension cord with a three-prong plug.

The cord attached to this is about five feet in length. Can be routed through your grill. And it does include everything shown here on the table. The tank heater with the five-foot long cord, the mounting bracket with the hardware for holding the heater. Six hose clamps, the Y-tube fitting, and the engine block drain hose fitting.

Now this is designed for coolant system with a 41 to 60-quart capacity. This tank is a die-cast zinc tank. It is impact and corrosion resistant and it assists the flow of coolant with a tapered neck. Does offer a thermosiphon which ensures that the warm coolant is circulated throughout. And it does have an internal thermostat to keep the coolant at between 135 to 175 degrees and will automatically shut the heater off at 175 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent overheating.

This allows safe operation overnight. This part is made in the USA. And as we mentioned, again the application, this is for cooling systems with a 41 to 60 quart of fluid. Wattage on this, 2500 watts; amperage, 8.3 amps. Now the tank itself, just the tank, the length of it is seven and a half inches.

The diameter is about two and a half inches. The inlet and outlet dimensions, these two tubes right here, they're about one and a quarter inches long and they're five-eighths inch diameter. Couple notes on this, you do not wanna use this heater with a hundred percent antifreeze solution and you do not want to start your engine with the heater plugged in. But that's gonna do it for the review on this Kat's Heaters 240 volt, 2500 watt Thermostatically Controlled Circulating Tank Heater.
