Having a 2004 MINI Cooper hardtop, I was a bit concerned about the fit of this rack. Based on another MINI owner's review (with a photo) I decided to give this a shot. It fits very well, went on easily, installing it myself. It is very sturdy and secure. I holds my Giant CoMax 1 well. However, be warned -- unless the top bar of your bike is straight, Yakimi recommends you buy its support bar to hold the bike straight. I did, but I don't really know that it was necessary. I do want to note that the other reviewer with the MINI & photo did not install the rack according to Yakimi's recommendation. Although her method works (I tried it), it puts a lot across and on the rear window, cutting down on already limited viewing area. In addition, you cannot use the rear window wiper as she installed the rack. The attached picture shows how I mounted it (which is in accordance with Yakimi's instructions). Here, only the top mounting straps go over the window and nothing sits on the glass. Just be sure the top bar's foam pad is resting above the MIMI logo badge, but below the window chrome strip. Although the overall thickness of the pad is wider than that space, that actual contact area fits well. So far, I have only used the rack with one bike mounted. I have driven on the freeway and over side street bumps. The rack holds the bike securely and doesn't move around.

After using this bike rack for a couple of times, I must say I'm very pleased with it.
The rack is easy to use,it sits very tight on the trunk and it seams that it is built very solid.
I had to order an extra set of glass hatch hooks to mount the rack to my 2007 Honda CRV.
Do I recommend this bike rack? YES!

Put this on my 2012 Ford Focus today for the first time. It was very easy to install. It held my Schwinn with no problems. It was very easy to remove and left no marks on the car or bike. Excellent construction, good materials, very sturdy! I will recommend this product to all my friends!

by:

Easy to setup and configure specific to my car. Excellent instructions specific to my car. I've used this style bike rack in the past and that one doesn't even compare to this. The Yakima KingJoe Pro 2 is extremely sturdy and smart. Excellent stability. Thank you! Looking forward to many more trips.

Love this rack! I found it pretty easy to install, even the first time, and it has been working great for me.

by:

DIrections were easy to understand. The product was easy to install. Had a little difficulty with attaching the bike due to getting the rubber straps to hook. All in all great product and great service. I have included a pic of it on our HHR.

I am very pleased with the bike rack. Photo is attached.

Unfortunately I can't rate the quality of the product because I can't use it. I have a 26" Mongoose Mountain Bike with Full Suspension Performance and it will not fit on this rack. There is not enough space between the upper and lower tubes of the bike to safely secure my bike. I tried multiple variations of attaching my bike and it just doesn't fit. As for installation, the website stated it was compatible with a 2012 Toyota Prius V. The measurement guide in the box did not include my vehicle type, so determining a safe and secure length for the hooks was based on trial and error. I was able to attach it to my Prius V, and had my bike fit I'm sure it would have held. I must say the service I have received from eTrailer has been phenomenal. Once I notified the company that my bike didn't fit, I receive return instructions almost immediately. Great job and thanks.

I bought this after reading various reviews and recommendations for a bike rack that would work on my 2008 Honda CR-V with its idiosyncratic hatch. It's both heavy duty and "heavy," weighing in at a hefty 17 lbs (my old rack was vintage '80s and pretty light). But once I got used to it, it worked like a charm. You'll need an extra set of the Glass Hatch Adapter Hooks if you're using it on a CR-V of the 2007 and later generation (don't know if the more recent models have modified the hatch). The instructions are easy to follow, and it worked like a charm on its trial run down the turnpike. No complaints so far. And the service from etrailer was great.

by:

The bike rack was easy to install and fits my vehicle perfectly. There is no swaying of the bike when driving. Provides secure transportation for my bicycle. The bike adapter for women's' bikes was necessary and easy to use. Also, etrailer provided excellent, fast service. I would definitely refer my friends.

This rack installed nicely on a 2014 Ford Escape. This year's Escape needs to use the glass straps on the bottom cause of the wide plastic on bottom of hatch door. Those straps were included. At first it took some time to measure and install but goes up fast on subsequent installs. Holds our bikes secure and straight. Looking forward to taking on a trip into Canadian Rockies here soon.

by:

Fit is great on Dodge Dart. 750 miles in hard rain and bike didn't move. Easy to get bike on and off.

I have been impressed with etrailer. The videos and the reviews were very helpful, and the post-purchase service has been strong.
The rack is very good. Installation was straightforward, though I had to go online to determine the exact measurements for my car, as it had been left out of the list on the Yakima instructions. But it's a trunk rack, so it's not going to be very tough to figure out. The whole process might have taken 10 minutes. I put my road bike on it and drove around town on some errands - the bike and rack were very stable. I have used a couple different trunk racks, and noticed some sway from side to side on one and vertical bounce on the other. This Yakima rack had neither. Rack and bike removal took less than a minute.
There are some nice touches on this rack, including bands for capturing excess strapping that would otherwise whip in the wind. The arm angle adjustment is very easy and secure.
The rubber straps that hold the bike frame to the arms are not the easiest things to manipulate. This is not a complaint - it's more of a warning for anyone who lacks hand strength. I struggled for longer than I expected to buckle the straps over the bike frame, and I see the inside of the gym regularly. I expect they will get easier with time.
One thing almost made this review very good instead of excellent. The strap to hold the front bike wheel in place was an inexpensive choice that works poorly. I think an elastic velcro strap would work better and can be found for a reasonable price at a hardware store.

This is a very well made, sturdy bike rack! I needed something that worked on a hatchback, which this does. I was impressed that the distance needed to set the arms in advance is listed for every car model that this rack fits! The instructions were also car specific as to where to best attach straps and where to place the bottom of the back. This was incredibly helpful. My one trip so far with the bike went very smoothly.

Problems I had: 1) For the car straps to fit all cars, they are very, very long. The first time I put the rack on, there was too much strap to work with and it took forever -- especially since I was also balancing the bike on the back of the hatchback at the same time. However, after the first ride I trimmed the straps and seared the ends to make them more manageable.

2) The straps have nothing to keep them from pulling all the way through the buckle, in which case you have to rethread the buckle (while you are balancing the rack). After I trimmed the ends, I put metal bull dog paper fasteners on them so they won't go through the buckle. I will look for something that is plastic for long term use though.

3. Because of the design of the buckle, I felt that I had trouble pulling the car straps as tightly as I would like. One has to maintain pressure on a lever inside the buckle with a finger, and the finger seems to get in the way of really tightening the strap. Perhaps I just have to work with this for awhile.

4, And finally, the reason I am not giving this rack a 5 star rating is because I found the rubbery anti-sway straps impossible to use. They are too thick, the holes in them are too small, and the knobs to put the holes over are too big. In addition to not being able to pull these straps tightly enough around the bike to be really secure, I was barely, barely able to get a strap hole over the plastic knob on the cradle before I left. And. . . when I arrived at my destination, I was completely unable to detach the strap from the knob. I eventually had to cut through the straps with a jack knife. I have since removed all of the anti-sway straps and will simply criss-cross the 12 in. Softride straps E-trailer also sells. (Some of the rubbery anti-sway straps had to pulled off knobs rather than cut off, and this was painful as they recoiled and stung my hands.)

I did write to Yakima and ask why they put such straps on the bike. They said these straps are for increased security in attaching the bike to the rack. Well, if you have the hands of a gorilla and are 6 feet tall (to get good leverage) these straps will work for you and your bike will be very secure.

All this being said, I consider the car strap and anti-sway strap issues to be minor. I will simple keep the Softride velcro straps attached to the bike rack when not in use so they are easy to find when needed.

Yakima rack for my '08 VW EOS works GREAT! Very easy to install and customer support from etrailer, as many have said before was awesome. Once I had the proper instructions(manual with Rack says does not fit EOS, etrailer directed me to Yakima, and specs are below), I had my Bikes on rack on EOS in less than 30 minutes. THANKS

Ordered the Yakima King Joe Pro 2 Bike Rack. Very "user-friendly" product with big red levers and support straps labeled with area to install----"Top", "Bottom" or "Side". Really sturdy & Yakima thought of all the details!! Plus as a product designer, I really love the sense of humor used to incorporate the bottle openers on the ends!. With two bikes on it, the rack doesn't rattle or move even after a 6 hr trip on the interstate. etrailer folks were great on the phone when I had questions about what to order & great on the follow up to make sure I was pleased. Thank you!!!

I was looking for a bike rack I could use on a 2010 Honda CRV & a
2002 BMW Z3 convertible. After reading a lot of reviews, I purchased the Yakima King Joe Pro 2 trunk bike rack. It's perfect! I put it on my little convertible by myself & hauled 2 bikes about 100 miles already. Since I'm new to carrying bikes on a rack, I was a little nervous about carrying my friend's expensive bike, but all went as planned! Kudos to etrailer.com for their service, super fast shipping & great correspondence during & after my order was placed! Thanks!

I am completely satisfied with every aspect of this bike rack. After watching the installation video and then following the instructions, installation was amazingly easy. I followed the instructions on securing the bike to the rack and drove 500 miles the day after installing the rack. With the arms folded, I leave the bike rack attached to my vehicle even when not in use. It fits perfectly on my 2010 GTI.
I've rarely been so satisfied with a product from delivery to installation to use.

The Yakima Super Joe 2 bike rack fits my CR-V perfectly with the two sets of glass hook adapters included with the rack. The installation video was of great help. Service was quick and complete and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase from eTrailer again. I will recommend them in the future!

Thanks so much for exemplary service!

So, I placed my order on a Sunday and received almost immediate confirmation that my bike rack had shipped!!! Wow - in another blink of an eye, the box was on my doorstep. I opened the box and was overwhelmed by the directions. I persevered and realized that it wasn’t that complicated - the rack was very similar, but much nicer than my previous rack. I got it attached, loaded my bike and am looking forward to an awesome season of biking.

by:

The service from etrailer is fantastic! The KingJoe bike rack was delivered FAST! Put it on my Mustang and it fit great. Took a while the first time, but now that I've done it, I can put it on & off the car in under a minute.
The one area that Yakima could improve on is the rubber straps that hold the bike on are a pain in the butt to get hooked into the holes. I am hoping they stretch after a few uses, otherwise a great product!

by:

Just got the rack and like it so far. Solid feel to it. The padding is substantial. Directions for putting it on the car are clear. Easy to put on and take off. As someone mentioned, the rubber straps for attaching the bike to the carrier are stiff and a little difficult to use, but if you push with your thumb with one hand while stretching the rubber with the other, it goes on easier. I'd rather they were stiff than too elastic and able to break. I am using a couple of bungee cords instead of the 2 free straps to attached the lower bike frame
to the carrier because the bungees go on and off very easily. Overall, nice looking carrier and easy the use. Also, liked dealing with etrailer.com. Fast shipping and the price was right.

Purchased for 08 BMW 328i. etrailer.com did a fantastic job shipping this out to me and the communication all the way through was impressive, they have great customer service!

The only bad is that I did not do my homework! Thr rack which was very easy to install on my car does not accomadate my mountain bike...silly me!

Looks like it's time for a new bike ;-)

Thanks etrailer for the outstanding work on your end!
