Video Transcript for TorkLift Custom Frame Mount Rear Camper Tie-Downs Installation - 2023 Ram 3500

Hello, neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look and installing the TorkLift Rear Camper Tie-Downs on a 2023 RAM 3500. In-bed campers are I think one of my favorite ways to go camping because you can load it in the back of your truck and have that camper ready to go. But generally, you can still pull trailers and have the usability to just drive around. So, one of the things that you're gonna wanna do when that in-bed camper is in place is make sure that it's strapped down.

Those can get really top heavy. And especially in wind gusts, you're going feel that side to side. It can kinda shift around. So, a way to help keep that in place and nice and secure is having rear camper tie-downs attached to your TorkLift hitch. Now, these bolt in directly to the TorkLift hitch that we already have installed, so you are gonna need to pick that up.

And I also recommend picking up the front tie-down points as well. That way you can really get that camper secured nice and tight. And what's really nice about these is when you have your camper not in your bed, it has a nice clean look. It just kind of extends past the hitch, but it keeps everything under the bumper, so nothing's unsightly, nor you're not gonna hit your knees or shins on it. And when you are ready to hook up to your camper, super easy.

You're able to just slide this in place. And you have two different points. So, if you need a little bit wider to get your turn buckles to your mounts and not touch the truck, no problem. You can have it fully extended or you can just slide this in a little bit more, and you're still gonna have that clearance. We'll just put our pin in place.

(pin clanking) And then also, where your mounting points are, you have a front and rear that you can pick from so you can really custom fit the clamping down of your camper. Now, some other accessories that I do recommend picking up along with camper tie-downs is going to be ways to strap it down. So, we have two different styles here from TorkLift. The first one is gonna be a little more simple. This is called the spring load. And this bolts up to the brackets, and then you have a chain with the turnbuckle that allows you to adjust the tension between your camper tie-downs and the camper getting a nice, tight fit. Now, this is a pretty basic system. It's not too bad to use. And once you kinda have it set, it should make it a little bit easier each time you do it. But that's where the FastGun comes into place. This one actually has spots marked on here to where you can mark driver front, driver rear passenger, so on and so forth. And that's because you can get this perfectly dialed in, and that way when you undo it, you'll be able to get this unlatched. But when you're ready to clamp it back down, it's gonna be preset, and then you can just simply clamp this down. It's gonna tension down and have that nice, tight seating of the camper in your bed. So, this is definitely, if you're gonna be taking your camper in and out quite often, the FastGun's definitely gonna be the ticket. But the spring load's also gonna be a great option as well. Now if you've already installed the TorkLift hitch on your RAM, you've noticed that it's probably very heavy duty compared to a lot of the other hitches out there. It's really robust and it's got a nice black powder coat finish to hold up long term to the elements. It's also made in the USA and bolts up directly to the hitch. Now it's very important when choosing camper tie-downs that you're using the submodel of your truck because it's gonna be very important to make sure that it bolts up directly. There's gonna be no drilling required on these, which is really nice. But if you have the wrong one for the wrong truck, it's not gonna work. So, make sure you're using our fit guide to make sure you're getting the proper part for your truck. I mentioned it uses the factory bolts that are on the hitch and there's no drilling required. So, installation of this will maybe take you about 10 to 15 minutes. So, let's take a look at that and we'll get your rear camper tie-downs installed. Now, when installing your rear camper tie-downs, you do need to have your TorkLift hitch. This is gonna slide into this channel to create the mounting point. So, if you've installed this yourself, you'll be happy to know that this one's super easy to do. It does come with new hardware. That's gonna be bolts. But we're gonna be utilizing the ones that are already in place. So the main thing is, is making sure that you have this in the proper orientation. So, on our driver's side we have our bracket here. These bolt holes are gonna go to the back bolts. So, just kinda test this in. We're gonna slide it. And it should be kind of at a downward angle just to kind of clear the bumper. But this is about where it's gonna sit. So, we'll go ahead, we'll take out those two bolts. It's gonna be a three quarter inch socket and wrench combo to get those out. (torque ratcheting) So, with those two bolts out, we'll just slide this in place and then pass our hardware back through. So, just make sure you just have the bolt and then you're gonna finish it up again with that split washer and the nut. And as far as torque settings, I'm gonna just use the same ones that we use to install the hitch. So, I'll snug this down and we'll get it torqued down. (torque ratcheting) (alarm beeping) So, with that torqued down properly, we'll just slide this in. Just make sure that this channel is facing up. And you have two different spots here that you can pin this. So, you can go a little bit wider depending on how you're gonna strap it down, or you can go a little bit closer. But I think the great part is is with this installed, when you don't have this in place, it's pretty clean looking. It doesn't stick out or protrude too much. It does a really good job here. So we'll go ahead, we'll get this on the closer one. Pin this up. And then, all that's left to do is repeat on the other side. And that was a look and installation of the TorkLift Rear Camper Tie-Downs on a 2023 RAM 3500.
