Paramount Bike Pad

The Paramount padded tailgate bike rack is a quick and easy alternative to fork blocks. It saves you from having to remove the front wheels on your bikes and from drilling into your truck bed. And if you normally use a hitch rack, but will be using your hitch to tow, this rack lets you bring up to 7 bikes as well. Spacing blocks prevent bike-to-bike contact, hook-and-loop straps secure your bikes to the rack, and the center flap provides access to your tailgate handle.

Anchor Points

Paramount Stanchion Pads

There are 8 spacing blocks along the outer side of the rack. These blocks provide stabilization for your fork stanchions to prevent bike-to-bike contact. To set up your bikes, just stagger the front wheels over the tailgate hanging outside of the truck and place the fork stanchions between the blocks.

Paramount Hook and Loops

A series of sewn-on loops along the top of the rack provide anchor points for your bikes. Use the included hook-and-loop straps to secure your bikes to the tie-down points to prevent your bikes from shifting during transport. Additional straps (sold separately) are available if you lose one.

Easy Access to Tailgate Handle

Paramount Tailgate Flap

The center flap lets you access your tailgate handle without having to remove the pad so you can lower your tailgate. The flap secures with a hook-and-loop fastener.

Mesh Pockets

Paramount Mesh Pockets

There are 2 sewn-in mesh pockets that let you conveniently store your biking gear. They're great for storing helmets, gloves, and wet or sweaty clothes that you don't want inside your truck.

Heavy-Duty Construction

Paramount Construction

The rack is made of heavy-duty, ballistic tarpaulin. A high-density foam core protects your tailgate and your bikes from dents and dings. The fleece lining provides a soft, smooth surface that won't scratch or scuff your tailgate.

Simple Installation

Paramount Installation

To install the rack just slide it over your tailgate and use the 3 integrated tie-down straps wrap to secure it in place.

Video Transcript for Swagman Paramount Full-Size Trucks Tailgate Pad Review - 2022 Ram 1500

What's up, everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be checking out the Swagman Paramount. This is going to be a tailgate pad to carry your bikes in the back of your truck. And today we're gonna be putting it on a 2022 Ram 1500. Swagman Paramount can hold up to seven bikes, so that's using quite a bit of your bed to carry a bunch of those bikes. It also leaves your hitch open, so if you have a ball on that's usually in there, you can just leave it in there.

You don't have to swap it out for a bike rack 'cause you're not getting a bike rack to hold seven bikes. Something that differentiates this pad from some of the other ones is this gonna have these extra paddings on the outside, that's gonna be grooves for the bikes to sit in, you can see on the bike that we have there. We have the shock that goes in between both pads and X as extra padding for the tire lean up against the tailgate. You also are going to have these bags on the backside so that can be helpful for accessories. If you have some sweaty mountain bike gear like a helmet or some gloves, you can put 'em back in this mash bags and they won't stink up your truck.

You also have the flap in the middle. You can fold back. This is gonna be an example of the material that's underneath the pad. It's very soft. It's not gonna scratch up your paint at all on this side, it's just like the regular pad.

It's not gonna scratch your bikes either, but it is durable enough so that it doesn't go through and mess up the tape on that side. Now a nice thing is it has a buckle or you buckle it here, close it. You can also pull it back, clip it in back there and now your backup camera is exposed so you can actually use that still. That's a nice feature that some even bike racks just cover up. So having it on the pad, we probably move the bike over one more space and it would be not blocked at all.

The pad holds the bikes in place with the hook and loop straps which hook in to these loops. They go around through there, so it'll put it around the down tube here and see it holds it in place. It still moves back and forth, but not a whole lot. It should move this much when you're driving. The pads here help hold the shock and the tire in place as well, so it is pretty sturdy. Now it does hold seven bikes, but if you we're to try and put two bikes on each side, they are still crammed together. So there's another pad that Swagman makes, the Tailwhip, and that one has more loops so you can spread the bikes out more. Now it only holds five bikes, but it has more options of placements for the bikes. So if you wanna do four, you can put two or more towards the end here, two on the other side, and this would be completely unblocked. Loading and unloading the bike really easy. We're just gonna undo the hook and loop here at the end, unthread it and then just lift the bike up and set it aside. It attaches really easily to the tailgate. Just run these straps underneath the tailgate. Probably helps to drop the tailgate a little bit and then you can run the strap up and through and then run through the buckles here, you're gonna have three of those. You can pull 'em tight and it stays in place. Overall, I do like the tailgate pad. I like the idea of using the truck that I already got and throwing the bikes up here. Saving a little bit of room there, but at least keep 'em upright and next to each other. Now if you like this idea, but don't really trust the hook and loop, there's the Yakima Gatekeeper and that's gonna have hooks that go in instead of the hook and loop design. Those a little sturdier, but it's not gonna hold as many bikes, so that one only holds six, this one holds seven, so it really is just up to you on which one you want. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out, and hope this helps..

I've been using this for a couple of years now. I mainly use it when we go camping. It's been great for carrying the 4 bikes we have. The bikes never have shifted/moved while in transit. The tailgate pad is a little tricky to put on (I lay under the truck and fish the strap up to my son). I've installed the mat by myself but it's way easier with 2 people.

It has been great for 5 or 6 bikes, easy to put on. A little tight and depending on the type of bike it won't line up in the designated spot but I can still velcro the bikes to keep them secure. Would definitely recommend the Swagman. It can be put on with one person but 2 is easier, one in the bed and one threading it through. The same is true for loading/unloading bikes, one in the bed of the truck and one handing the bikes up. I have definitely done it by myself so we're loaded and ready to go camping when the boys get home from school.

Really like this bike rack for my truck. Easy to put on. Handles the Mtb bikes well.

Well made, but you need to do something about the 3 straps...and how you can push a wet noodle up through the gap. Gonna have to put a sting down, and attach it to each stap to pull them up.

  • How to Add a Bike Rack to a 2018 Ford F-150 if the Tonneau Cover is Above the Rails
I have a possible solution for you. First, though, the TruXedo TruXport for your 2018 Ford F-150, part # TX298301, covers the rails of your bed, making it impossible to attach a ladder rack. There is not an adapter that can overcome this obstacle. However, there are other options to carry bikes with your tuck. The first is to use a roof rack with a bike rack like the Yakima FrontLoader, part # Y02103. It attaches to the roof rack and secures the bikes by the wheels. If you let me know...
