Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires
Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.
Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.
- If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
- If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
- If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
- If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Kenda Karrier ST185/80R13 Load Range D Radial Trailer Tire with 13 inch aluminum wheel with a 5 on 4 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now this tire and wheel assembly is gonna be great for your boat trailers, stock trailers, utility trailers, and campers. This special trailer tire, or ST tire, has sturdy sidewalls so that it can handle heavy loads. It is created specifically for trailers and not intended for use on other vehicles. As you know, radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway.
And this radial tire is constructed with double steel belts and full nylon plies that combine for superior function and long life. The computer-generated tread design and premium rubber compound materials are gonna give you superior traction in wet or dry conditions. As I mentioned at the beginning of our time together and as we have stamped on our tire, this is an ST185/80R13. The section width of this tire is 7.2 inches and the outer diameter is 24.6 inches. This is a load range D tire, meaning it has an eight ply rating.
The maximum load is 1,710 pounds at 65 PSI. And this tire has a speed rating of M, indicating a maximum speed of 81 miles per hour. This gun metal gray aluminum wheel is durable, lightweight, and rust proof. This open-spoke design is rather unique and appealing. And the clear coat finish on the front and the back is going to protect this wheel from scuffs and scratches.
The lug nuts feature steel inserts, the lug nut wells rather, feature steel inserts that are going to help keep the wheel securely in place on your trailer hub. Because of those steel inserts, those inserts are gonna prevent the holes from wearing down, eliminating the need for the constant retightening of the lug nuts. The dimensions of our wheel, measuring from bead seat to bead seat, the diameter is 13 inches, and the width of this wheel is 4 1/2 inches. I mentioned that the bolt pattern is 5 on 4 1/2 inches. In case you don't know, the first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes and then the second number is the diameter in inches of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
So to determine the bolt circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, as we have here, you're just going to measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. The wheel capacity is 1,740 pounds. The wheel stud size is 1/2 inch by 20. The center cap is sold separately, but if you decide to pick one up, you just wanna make sure that it fits the pilot diameter of 3.19 inches. This tire and wheel assembly does meet the Department of Transportation specifications. And I think that's gonna wrap up our brief look today. Ordering from etrailer was quick and easy as always. Shipping was fast and prices are the best. I replaced my six year old galvanized rims and bias tires for these aluminum rims and radial higher quality tires. They look great on the Jon boat trailer. Now I can use the old ones that still look new for spares. I went up two tire sizes from the original painted rims and tires which makes the trailer ride much better. The only reason I did not give it five stars is the tires were 18 months old off the shelf.

the tires on the rims I received are already 2 years old, tires have a life cycle of 10 years i would prefer new stock not old stock, you should tell customers this in advance. Rims were nice though

Really happy with my tire/wheel package upgrade. Replaced the factory grey spokes and tires from 2007 when the original tires finally failed. The wheels were covered in rust from the salt up here. Only towed the trailer about 100 miles since the install but it tows soooooo smooth and looks pretty dang good.
I inadvertently stepped up an inch in tire size when I got the 15” wheels up from the factory 14” because “I know what I’m doing” but the clearance doesn’t seem to be an issue thankfully.
I thought it was just a bigger wheel. Lol

I upgraded my 15’ jon boat trailer wheels to these radial load range D, replacing the bias ply load range B. I couldn’t be more pleased, not only do they look great, but with the extra weight I put in the boat I have peace of mind knowing it’s rolling on better rubber. I also ordered a spare tire mount and now have.a spare using one of the original tires.

I built my" tool shed" on a Triton aluminum trailer. I wanted doors on three sides. I do a lot of volunteer work at a Bible camp and it involves hauling my tools to the job. The trailer had 12x 4 inch wheels and I wanted something I more substantial to carry the load. I ordered the wheels and tires from etrailer. They came on time and we're exactly what I wanted. This is such a great upgrade from the small bias tire. It travels so nice on the freeway. The aluminum rim looks so much better. I definitely recommend to buy the extended Lugnuts. The standard Lugnuts do not have enough grip on them to tighten.

Very good customer service. The tires and mounting was spot on. Only small complaint would be the center cup insert does not lock in place. It will flop around a small amount. Easy solution is to put a small amount of clear silicone adhesive around the the cup and press the cup in place. Otherwise so far zero issues and the tires appear to be wearing well and have good side traction for our heavy 5th wheel in the rain. Highly recommend this combo. They look great on an older trailer.

Very nice tire and wheel combo. Used to replace and upgraded on my Jayco Qwest Pop-up. Only compliant and VERY minor one, I spent more time removing stickers and labels from the wheels & tires than it took time to mount them :-) but overall highly recommended !!!

My 1st Jon Boat, transformed it from a dingy Ugly Green to what you see now, custom 3 phase paint and custom built decking and carpeting, added Garmin ECHOMAP UHD, painted the trailer and needed the get rid of the worn out Bias-Ply Tires that originally came with the boat when I purchased it. Decided to purchase the 12 inch Kenda tire and 12 inch aluminum HWT Wheel from etrailer I had a very good experience with the live rep over the phone while processing my order. I was in need of tires for my double jet ski trailer. This trailer gets a lot of miles out on it so I was interested in switching to radial tires and while I was at it, I figured I’d upgrade the wheels as well. This wheel/tire combo fit the trailer perfectly and is a nice cosmetic upgrade from the original white wheels it came with.

What I can tell you is that the # KE33JR comes with the Kenda AM03 Gun Metal Aluminum Trailer Wheel. view full answer... - Recommended Stainless Steel Lug Nuts For A Shorelandr Boat Trailer Hey Jeremy, For stainless steel lug nuts I'd go with Lionshead's 1/2" -20 # LHLR103 or 9/16"-18 # LHLR110 depending on the diameter of your wheel studs. You could add in a hub cover but it's honestly not necessary and more so just for looks. The Karrier ST185/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire & Wheel # KE33JR has a 3.19" pilot hole so you'd just need to measure how far that dust cover sits out to see if there's a long enough hub cover to fit.

Our tires will generally run from around a year to 2 years old. It is worth noting that our warehouse is climate controlled. Most tire manufacturers will say that tires do not age when in proper storage. The tire warranty will start when you receive and mount the tire, regardless of the date code.
