These Titan Chain diamond-pattern chains are great winter weather chains. If you live in an area where you're likely to get frequent snow and ice, these chains are perfect because they're durable and easy to mount. The links on these chains are thicker than the links on most other low-profile snow chains on the market, so they'll wear better and last longer. But they're still lightweight and compact, so they store in your vehicle nicely too. If you're more likely to see seriously icy conditions, you may want a chain with V-bar links that can really bite into the ice to give you maximum traction.

These chains are among the easiest and fastest to install because they have built-in tensioners that you can just pull taut to adjust the fit. These tensioners allow the chains to fit your tires, no matter the profile or wear pattern. And because the tensioners are built-in, you never have to worry about losing them like you might with other chains on the market.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer. You'll also need to know how much clearance is in your wheel well, which you can determine by measuring from your tire tread to the sidewall of the wheel well.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Installing Tire Chains

Installing these chains is incredibly simple.

Lay chains on the ground to get all the tangles out

1. Lay out the chains on the ground to make sure there are no twists or kinks.

Slide chains behind the tire

2. Spread the chain around the back of the tire.

Make connections behind the tire

3. Connect the ends of the cable, which will sit behind the tire.

Attach green hook to yellow side chains

4. Around front, connect the 2 ends of the yellow side chain using the green hook at the top of the tire.

Feed tensioner through clips

5. At the bottom of the tire, feed the silver tensioning chain through the red channel bracket and pull it taut. Then run the tensioner through as many red clips along the side chain as you can, leaving room to still be able to stretch the hook across the tire.

Recheck tension

6. Attach the hook to the side chain directly across from the last clip you ran the tensioner through. The hook should face away from your tire. Pull your vehicle forward 2-3 vehicle lengths and recheck the tension.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Titan Chain Diamond Alloy Snow Tire Chains Review TC1505

What's up everybody, Adam here with the etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains. This is definitely gonna be an upgrade to some of those ladder pattern style chains because of the install process. One, we don't have to grab a rubber tensioner separate it has one built in. Two, we don't have to make a connection in the back at the bottom of the wheel. When we're putting these on we have one connection up top.

So it's really easy. If you are one that only puts on chains whenever you're stuck, this is gonna be the easiest one to do it. So let's go over some features. These are gonna be some smaller links compared to some of the more aggressive ones. So if you do go with some of the more aggressive ones, you might get more traction, but it's gonna be a less smoother ride.

So these little cross chains right here, is what's gonna kinda help with that ride just because we're not really gonna be going from tire to chain to tire to chain. There's only a couple of different spots that we're actually gonna have full tire on the ground. So with those ladder pattern style chains you really get the choppy feel. Where these are gonna be a lot smoother because of the smaller links, and these are made of a manganese nickel alloy steel, so they are extra strong. And they're gonna last you for a decent amount of seasons.

When it comes to rim protection, we have a powder credit finish on all of the chains surrounding our wheel. So whether you have the factory wheels or some fancy wheels where you just wanna protect 'em, you don't have to worry about it scratching anything 'cause everything that may make contact with your wheels is gonna be made of a softer material. So it's gonna give and it's not gonna scratch your wheels. That's something I really look forward just because I just wanna get unstuck, I don't want to put my vehicle in jeopardy of any type of damage or anything like that. It does come in a pair of two.

So just grab as many as you need for your setup. The speed rating is 30 miles an hour so we don't wanna exceed that. I do like the case. So the thick canvas, it's really easy to store. I just throw it underneath the seat or in the storage compartment, or even just in a toolbox or something like that. With the ladder pattern style chains, or the cable style chains are really hard to get back in here. These are really easy 'cause you have a slot for one on one side, and a slot for the other on the other. So this is definitely an upgrade from one of those canvas bags. Those canvas bags really do rip like almost immediately. Sometimes we literally taking them out of the bag for the first time and they rip. So this is gonna be a really good case that's not really going to break or rip, and it's easier to store. All in all this is gonna be one of the better options when it comes to tire chains. If you wanna see how easy the installation process is, stick around we're gonna show you. First thing we wanna do is lay out the chains, just make sure they're not tangled up or twisted or anything like that. And then what we wanna do, we're gonna take one side, and we're gonna slide it behind our wheel, and we're only supposed to install these on the outer wheel of this truck. So you can find that information in your owner's manual to see which tire they want you to put it on. So once we get this all around, what we wanna do is take this, and we go behind the wheel, and make our connection just like that. And while we're here, grab all these chains, and drape 'em over. And once we get majority of it out there we wanna kind of tuck this back a little bit. You gonna have a series of links. I'm just gonna start with the outermost one right here. And these little cross chains, we want those to be in the middle of our tires. Just like that. And once that's done, then have a little tension there, 'cause it does get a little tangle back here, especially with the Dually wheels. And now we're gonna have this little red bracket, we're gonna take this little chain, and we're gonna put it through there, give it a good tug. It's gonna lock into place. We have two different round pieces here. The goal here is to put it through at least one of them, and then go directly across the wheel, from whichever one. So this one has decent amount of tension, but if you go through the other one, we're not gonna have enough chain to be able to go all the way over there. So we're gonna have to use the first one. You don't have to do both. Just whatever fits the best. And we wanna make sure that the hook is facing out. And now we wanna just get in the car, roll over them a couple of times, make sure that they're still nice and tight, and if so, we are good to go. And that'll do it for a look at the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chain..

Jessica was very helpful selecting which chains to purchase. They fit well, the price was very competitive and arrived quickly. I had to deliver some material to a mountain location and needed to go down a couple of steep inclines. I put chains on all four tires of my truck and one axle on the trailer. I didn't have any slipping or sliding on an icy snow-packed road.

by:

I put these chains on and they lasted less than one slow-driving (under 30mph) mile. Despite proper installation, both of them broke in different ways (seems like multiple weak points). One use and they failed me, in snow, got me deep into a predicament that I had to work quite a bit to get out of. I am worse off than when I started - and I had to pay a lot to be stranded. In my assessment, these chains are garbage and actually quite [not allowed to make "suggestions that may affect safety/warranty]. Contacted etrailer about it, brushed off referring to the 30-day limitation. There is no concern for proper function, likely just the bottomline. Value your money and go elsewhere.

I have a 2018 Suburban Premier with the 22” wheels and 285/45R22 tires. I purchased two sets of these chains (four chains in all) for a trip to Mammoth California at the beginning of March 2023 during a record snow season. I was really glad that I had them as I had them all four wheels for most of a week, taking them off and putting them on at least 5 times. Part of the time I had them on I was pulling a 6x12 UHaul trailer. These chains worked flawlessly and provided a huge amount of extra traction on top of my Michelin Defender LTS M/S tires. I was a bit concerned that using the chains may cause some damage to may alloy wheels, but that did not happen. If you put them on correctly, the wheels don’t get damaged at all. The etrailer videos that show how to put the chains on accurately portray the ease of doing that. Even after a week of pretty constant use, the chains don’t show much wear at all. I would absolutely buy these again.

For ease of installation, these snow chains are great! The only problem I had was on my right rear, the tensioning chain could not be tightened enough going through the rings the way the instructions showed. I ended up going to the far ring first, then back to the middle, then across the wheel. Only for tensioning (doesn’t pull the chains offsides at all), so I think my solution worked well. Kelsey S. was a wonder to work with! This was my first foray into snow chains, so she guided me through my options, explaining every benefit and need for the ice/snow conditions expected. I put the chains on my 2015 Ram 2500 4x4 long bed relatively quickly considering my inexperience.

by:

I'm very happy with my snow chains! The chains are easy to install, the carrying case is great, the instructions are very clear, and George and Carol from etrailer provided great customer service! The chains are well-priced and are comparable to the Grizzlar Diamond tire chains.

by:

These chains were amazing! I was a bit hesitant to go with chains over cables due to the car's manual saying to use cables, but after talking to Bob at etrailer, and watching the install videos, I went with them (on all four tires) and am glad I did! We went up to Yosemite for the New Year, and it snowed the day we drove in. We got through the gate into the park without needing chains, but once inside, the roads started to get covered, and though we have AWD, we don't have snow tires and the chains seemed like the best option. We pulled over and had the chains on all four tires within about 20 minutes. The car ran like a tank through the snow (and later, ice-covered roads) and I'm really happy we went with the chains rather than cables. After putting on the chains, we drove about 100 yards to check and tighten them. They were actually pretty tight - only had to tighten one. They really really came in handy driving through the Yosemite Valley, and the email responses I got from Bob prior to buying these showed me great customer service. The shipping speed was top notch as well, and overall, I'm happy that we went with etrailer to get these chains for our snow-covered trip to Yosemite.

by:

No snow yet but the practice installation went great! So simple my 6 year-old helped make sure I was following the instructions properly. Time will tell if I need them and how they work in the upcoming North Idaho snow plowing season. Fit great on my 275/70R18 tires. I appreciate the carrying case they came with, also!

by:

While the snow chains were easier to use than traditional snow chains, one of the links broke within the first day of use. I was driving less than 20 mph on snowy/icy roads so I don't know what went wrong. It was very frustrating to have the snow chains break almost immediately. As such, I cannot recommend this product.

by:

These chains are Awesome in every way! I live at 7500' on a mesa in W.new mexico, winter is get to town in the morning early while the roads are still frozen. . . otherwise its mud\snow\rock\ice, in a steady uphill climb. . . These chains go on so fast, (like 5min for a set). I use them on a 2001 AWD\4WD Expedition... FRONT end only and while I get some rear end sliding, the fronts just never break loose at all

by:

First, overall I will say I like these chains. I have used cables before as well as cheaper chains and found them more difficult to put on (in the case of the chains) and did not provide as great of traction.

When these chains are on they work great. They're pretty easy to put on and the traction in deep snow and on ice is great.

Unfortunately, one of my chains completely broke apart when I was driving the mountain rode in a bit of ice and slush. I was going about 25 and I had properly secured and tightened them before heading out. I doubled back to pick them up off the road and the metal was completely broken, so there was no salvaging that. I had used them only 4-5 times and dry them off after each use, so I'm pretty disappointed it did not last long at all. I reordered a pair in hopes the last one was a fluke and now have a backup chain in case one breaks again, but will update this after a few more trips with the new chains. Overall, they work great when they work, but the build quality is now in question.

by:

This is actually my second set of these chains, my first set loosened up quite a bit and weren't very stable at speeds over 20 MPH. Overall, fantastic set! I know these aren't supposed to last a lifetime by any means, but still got about 2 seasons of mountain/snow wear and use with them. Price is right, install is easy once you know and understand how to put them on. Pro Tip- I went to staples and got the instruction sheet laminated, it helped tremendously, especially when you need to do a quick reference on the side of a road.

by:

Works well, I suggest adding additional tensioner if you don’t want any slack.
Loved the product

by:

I've fit these chains once. Super easy to put on, super easy to take off. Bought these for my trips to Tahoe. Although my truck is 4x4, it's worth it to have these chains in case I need them.

by:

They seem like good chains, but they don't seem to fit my 2021 Toyota Sienna AWD tires like it said they should (235/65/17). The tensioner chain is too short for me to pull tension on adjacent yellow chains and I am worried this will negatively impact the chains stability on my tires. I can barely get the rubber tensioner through the first red ring after pulling and readjusting several times. This is my first time using snow tire chains... Would someone with experience be able to let me know if this is OK or if I should buy some different chains?

by:

I got the chains and tired them on tonight and they seem big. With the tension all the way tight there was still slop in the chain system. It definitely seems like they could tighten more. The instructions show a few inches of available tension when the chains are on plus I had to loop the bungee cord around another section of chain to get any tightness. It just does not seem like the proper fit and may cause issue when in use. Is there a smaller size or another tire chain that would better fit a 275/65R18 tire???

by:

I have a Chevy Traverse 2018 with 255/65R18 tires. The distance between tire and wheel well of the car is low. Even after watching the install video and confirming these would fit my size tire without any extra equipment or cutting of links. The fit was loose even after having the tension chain pulled to the last link. I had to add extra heavy duty black bungees across the face of the wheel to pull the slack in. Just like you used to do with the old style heavy duty chains. After adding the bungees the chains worked great in 12" of snow.

by:

Fantastic product with low profile fit on 2015 Grand Cherokee. Easy installation. Make sure the GREEN link is at the top when you take them off, so that it lines up with clasp on the inside of tire for easy removal.

by:

I'm satisfied with this product. I ordered these for use on my 2007 F-150 (oversized tires). I have used in these twice while up on forest service roads in winter. They grip very well and have held up to driving slowly on heavily snowed roads. I felt much safer on compacted snow near steep drop-offs.

Installation is fairly simple, although tensioning takes a minute. I supplemented these chains with bungie cords to get them nicely tensioned. Remember to check tension after they settle in. I had good results checking after only a few hundred yards.

I would not expect them to stand up to heavy duty use or combined snow and rocks. But these are not that kind of chain. Good for emergency use or light duty recreation.

by:

Carry bag is really nice. Chain and cable seem to be tough to withstand anything during use. Took less than 2 minutes to wrap and connect on a tire. Just hope the same in winter. Lol….

It does fit 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 with 20” rims. So the info advertised could be updated to reflect that.

by:

Waited a year to write this review. These chains are amazing!!!! I have a 2WD truck and love my winter sports (I know I know). Anyways, just got back from a week in Mammoth Lakes CA, Mammoth is currently experiencing some of the most snow for the season that they've had for awhile. These chains stayed on my truck for all 5 days there. Through powder, packed snow, ice, etc. These chains DELIVERED!!!!!!!! I am so happy with them that my friends who have 4wd that were on the trip asked about them and are ordering the same ones for their trucks as well! I couldn't be more happy with the purchase.

by:

I got these as a precaution because I was going to ski in Utah and Colorado with my F-350 4WD truck. Boy did it turn out that I needed them. I've never owned tire chains before but these were easy to install and remove and very effective! The carrying case is very convenient as well. I got a set of four chains (two pairs)and in four wheel drive my truck moved through the snow like a tank. Good product. (And I don't bother to write many reviews)

by:

2020 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss. Chains only fit on rear tires(275/65r18). Worked excellent. Easy to install. No movement of chains while driving (under 25 mph). Happy with my purchase. I wish I could fit chains on front tires!

by:

Chain tire set was received several days before the date indicated in the order. My tire size 275/65-20 was not listed on the label of the TC2335 chain set received, even though it was indicated to be good for my tire size by Etrailer. I test fitted the chains in accordance with the etrailer video and it fit just fine as you can see in the attached photo. These chains should do well for our National Park trip in a few months.

by:

Excellent service and a very good product. I had a slight issue and they handled it right away. The product itself is like a knobby ice and snow grabber, it works well. I have a 2wd and am considering a second pair for the front tires. Installation is straightforward. I always advise practicing the install multiple times at home because it’s a lot more difficult in sub 20f temps ;).

I highly recommend the product, etrailer, and winter tires

Ps buy a few backup rubber tighteners just in case!

by:

These look like good quality chains but sadly they did not fit my LT275/70R18 Ironman All-country AT tires, despite advertising that they fit that size. Worse, I had to pay return shipping because they were not “confirmed fit” for my F250, which was a nasty surprise.
