Rhino Rack RVP Roof Rack Main

The low-profile, aerodynamic Rhino-Rack RVP roof rack lets you carry gear and accessories on your vehicle's roof quietly and with little wind drag. It's designed for installation on a vehicle with fixed mounting points (or flush side rails with internal fixed mounting points). The rack's Vortex Aero crossbars have built-in rubber strips that disrupt airflow for a quiet ride, and the bars are constructed of aluminum so they won't rust. These bars blend seamlessly with the support legs to provide a from-the-factory look, and they are custom cut to your specific vehicle so they require no adjustment during installation. The legs also include built-in locks that protect your gear and the rack from theft.

Aerodynamic Design

Rhino Rack RVP Roof Rack Design

The rubberized Vortex strips in the top channel of each crossbar disrupt airflow with evenly spaced, wave-shaped grooves. This carefully controlled turbulence minimizes wind noise and whistling, so you won't need to add a fairing to your roof rack. And the slim, elliptical Vortex Aero crossbars cut through the air with minimal drag - even at highway speeds.

Rhino Rack RVP Roof Rack Closer

The RVP roof rack has a flush-mount design so the crossbars terminate at the legs with no overhang. This provides the rack with a seamless, from-the-factory look.

Strong, Durable Construction

Rhino Rack RVP Roof Rack Construction

The Vortex Aero crossbars are made of structural-grade anodized aluminum with H-shaped internal extrusions. These extrusions strengthen the bars without adding a significant amount of weight. And the aluminum bars won't rust so you can leave them on your roof year-round.

Rhino Rack RVP Roof Rack Bar Close

The rack's durable, glass-reinforced nylon legs are designed to stand up to cargo loads and weather extremes. They're also UV treated to withstand long-term exposure to sunlight.

Channel-Mounted and Clamp-On Accessories

Rhino Rack RVP Roof Rack Channel and Clamp Accessory

Each crossbar has a built-in C-channel so you can carry channel-mounted accessories such as bike racks, watersport carriers, and ski racks. The Vortex strips in the top channels come in pieces, so they're easier to adjust than a single long, continuous strip. You can remove, trim, and re-insert the Vortex strips around the mounting hardware of your accessories to keep the crossbar channels capped and quiet. Replacement strips (sold separately) are also available if you remove your accessories or switch to clamp-on accessories.

You can also attach most clamp-on accessories to the bars, and the Vortex strips provide a shock-absorbing, no-slip cushion for any accessories that rest on them.

Built-In Security

Rhino Rack RVP Roof Rack Security

Locking covers on each support leg let you secure accessories mounted in the crossbar top channels. These sturdy nylon covers give the rack a finished look and also help secure the rack to your roof. The cover locks are keyed alike, so a single key opens all locks.

Video Transcript for Rhino-Rack Fixed Mounting Point RVP Roof Rack Review

Hey everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer and we're gonna be taking a look at the Rhino-Rack RVP Roof Rack System, for your fixed mounting points. If you wanna carry around fun accessories like your kayak carriers, or your roof boxes, or your roof baskets, you're gonna need a roof rack system. And sometimes your car does not have one already and you need to get one attached. So the RVP is designed for your fixed mounting points. Very popular for people that have flush rails like these. So, look at your car, you might have rails on them, and there's two types of rails, flush rails and raise rails.

If there's nowhere for anything to clamp around and through your rails but they have points to install into, you're gonna need a roof rack system like the RVP. There's three parts to the RVP Kit. You're gonna have the base kit or the custom fit kit, you're gonna have the leg kit, and then you're gonna have the crossbars. So if you wanna make sure that you get all three of those to match your vehicle, use our Fit Guide here at etrailer.com to find the right fit for you. There's a lot of good features to the RVP.

It's very sleek, very streamlined, you also have security features where you can lock the end caps of your towers. And it's very easy to remove the crossbars when you just need a nice clean look. But there are some downsides to that too. So this does not have any overhang. An overhang is when the crossbars stick a little bit further past your rails.

So the downside to having no overhang is you are gonna have to reach further into your roof to get your accessories up there. So if you wanna carry a kayak and put the kayak up you're gonna have to reach farther in. Now, on the other hand, that means you can start looking at accessories that help out with that. With this being low-profile, you also have less space underneath your crossbars before your roof. So for those accessories, if you have large U-bolts with huge clamps, you might not have enough clearance.

You'll want something like this, which is sleek. It's just a strap that goes around the crossbar and secures it. So for example, I have about 2" here for clearance for those clamps. So everything just works together to create a solid but also streamline system. From your UV resistant towers to your aluminum crossbars, and then the Vortex strips and cushions on top. As well as to how things are custom-fit kit for your vehicle. If you want something that is sleek, low profile, but also sturdy and practical, that's where the RVP System can come in handy. Now the way they install can be different for different vehicles. And that's why again, it is very important to use the Fit Guide here at etrailer to not only to find the right fit for you, but also you can check out the install process and guide you through that. Where it is gonna mount, is gonna be different for different cars, but compared to the other systems this is gonna be the RVP for your fixed mounting points, wherever they may be. Removing the crossbars is super simple. So there's just one bolt on each side. Loosen that with a 10 mm wrench or socket, then take that bolt out and hold onto it. Then carefully take your crossbar off. And then get your cap, popped that onto the sleeve, and then use the flat washer, split washer, and bolt you just took off to tighten that down. So this is a great option if you just need to take your crossbar off real quick and put them right back on. This is going to add 1" to the top of your flush rail system, and it's definitely gonna be very streamlined. Although you will have to keep a 10 mm wrench inside your vehicle if you wanna keep doing this. That right there, was a look at the Rhino-Rack RVP Roof Rack System for your fixed mounting points right here at etrailer.

Rack is solid, attractive, and well made. The "rack kit" comprises three separate kits; the base kit which includes the brackets and hardware that attach to the oem rails on the vehicle, the feet kit which attach to the crossbars to allow the crossbars to attach to the base rail brackets. Consequently, I found the printed instructions lacking in content and continuity (more on that later), but overall the install is reasonably straight forward and intuitive.

As someone with arthritic thumbs I found inserting the mounting screws and attaching the rubber skirts to the base rail brackets, along with insertion of the rubber strips into the crossbars to be somewhat of a challenge. In addition, the feet kit was short on mounting hardware and the hex-head cap screws supplied were not desirable for mounting feet to base brackets so I sourced replacement hardware locally.

Back to content and continuity of written instructions. No mention that crossbars were location specific and cut too different lengths and can be distressing if you don't think to check fit at the start of installation.

Otherwise, the rack looks good and is solid on the roof. I have not noticed any appreciable increase of wind noise before/after rack install and would not hesitate to recommend to a friend.

P.S. Jesse and the folks at etrailer were great to work with/answer questions.

Worked perfect for my 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Purchased to pair with Rhino-Rack S512 kayak roof racks.

by:

The racks look very OEM when installed. Had an issue with initial fitment. Spoke with Etrailer and Rhino folks who were very helpful. Essentially feet of mounts needed to be shortened about 1/2 inch for flush fitting on Range Rover L322 roof line. Went very well after that. Have already placed an 80 pound kayak on and no issues with stability etc. Very well made and happy with the end result

by:

Perfect fit, easy installation, 10mm socket wrench,Phillips screwdriver, safety pin is all that is needed

by:

Perfect fit, very sturdy super easy to install with all the right hardware stoked I got a deal like this !

by:

Installation was easy and the rack seems very secure. It has plenty of clearance for the panoramic sunroof on my 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe.

by:

Easy to install, it's very strong, easy to transport my kayaks, and my attached Thule Stackers work well with it. It's a great rack mounted on my factory Honda CRV roof rails.

by:

Finally finished my Rhino-rack roof rack install on my 2022 Hyundai Kona. I had problems understanding confusing directions and found out after calling and sending a video that there were wedges missing from my original shipment. I thought the bolts were too long only because pieces were missing. I thank Wayne from customer service for helping me figure this out and shipping them out next day air. I am happy with the install and they are sturdy and high quality. Just think they should make directions easier to understand. Happy customer just in time as we are planning a vacation starting tomorrow night to the beach! Good job etrailer.com!

I ordered a rack for a car with raised rails on the roof and fixed mounting points on the inside of those rails. Etrailer sent a rack with mounts that are made for a car with no rails on the roof. I’m supposed to get two crossbars - there’s three in the box, one is longer than the other two. Why? Who does that? Either I was sent a box with random parts from a previously returned rack or it was packed wrong at the factory. Either way, the quality control is clearly trash from the factory and on this product line in general. The best part is, it arrived a day later than it was supposed to, and there’s no time to get another one sent before it’s needed. Whether the factory blew it or not, the shipping is on etrailer.

by:

Great looking bar. Would have gave it a five star except the instructions for a 2018 Honda HRV have a lot to be desired. Roof rails were factory installed with no bolts pointed up for Rhino racks mounting. Had to rework factory mounts with straight threaded rods in order for Rhino installation to attach to Honda roof rails.

I purchased a Rhino Rack RVP Roof Rack (RRRVP27) for my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. The product installation was straightforward and the crossbars have a sleek finished look. I use the crossbars in conjunction with two Thule Sidearm 594XT bicycle racks and the setup works great.

I appreciate that the product blends in nicely with the look of the vehicle as the crossbars do not extend past the roof line and that security locks are included with the system.

One drawback is that the crossbars, which are designed to be whisper quiet, whistle while driving. I have a panoramic sunroof which may be a contributing factor to the increased noise levels and this may vary with a traditional roof.

by:

top quality materials, instructions could have been a little more detailed but it was pretty easy to assemble/install otherwise. I wish Rino-Rack have a silver/brush aluminum version instead of only black (the box actually shows a silver rack). Haven't driven with the racks installed yet so I don't know how quiet they are. I have a set of Thule Aero bars that are whisper quiet so I'm hoping these are the same. I would recommend.....

by:

Every thing fit great and looks great too. Only issue I had was there were no bolts to fasten the risers to the base. Had to find the correct size metric bolts to complete the project. The installation video was very helpful.

I love this rhino rack it'so beautiful so good fits perfectly for my jeep grand cherokee all hardware is good I really love it and I totally recommend it I totally recommended fits perfectly the price is so good don't even waste your time with something else just go ahead and buy it and it was fast delivery 5 star for sure

I purchased these crossbars for my 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The fit guide from Rhino Rack indicated that they are "not confirmed to fit." However, I took a chance and they fit perfectly. They actually look like they were installed at the factory.

by:

Installation was straightforward and I feel stronger than the factory crossbars which clamp on, as these cross bars screw into the connect points for the rails. These rails are also flatter than the factory installed rails. But are not perfectly flat. Roof-mounted bike racks may still lean a little bit. Which what I was trying to solve by replacing the factory cross rails/bars.

by:

Works out very well on a Grand Cherokee with a big yakiama box and a cross-country trip.

Wind and whistle noise is very minimal (only slight whistle at lower speed, only noticeable with radio off).

by:

We bought a car with docking stations but no roof racks. After searching the internet I called etrailer. Jaime listened to my story, asked for a picture of the roof of the car so she could better help me. Her customer service was worth every penny we spent. The product was exactly what we needed and the instructions were easily understood. Installation went so smoothly my husband and I are still talking lol

by:

Order was packaged very well and was shipped promptly; however base kit was mis-packed at Rhino Rack and was missing a part. etrailer responded promptly and I received the part I needed to install the rack system within 3 days of reporting it. After preparing my flush racks for mounting the Rhino Rack, I discovered that both vortex bars were too long to fit my 2019 Kia Sorento SXL. I disassembled one end of each bar and used a chop saw to remove 5/8 inch from the front bar and 7/16 inch from the rear bar. After trimming the rubber and drilling new screw holes in the cut ends, I reinstalled the mounting legs and installed the bars without further incident on the car. This rack system will be the heart of my hang glider transportation after I fabricate a hood rack and a rear receiver rack. Took longer than I expected but I had the time and tools to make it look factory installed and custom fit. In retrospect, and given the delays due to poor quality control at Rhino Rack and my having to re-cut both bars to properly fit the fixed mounting points on my car, I feel a fairer price for the system would be in the range of $325.00 to $350.00, rather than the nearly $500.00 I paid for it.

by:

Perfect fit and easy install on our 2018 Explorer. Very sturdy for use with our roof box. The only time these whistle is when the moonroof is tilted up, not with the moonroof closed or fully opened.

by:

The bolts that attach the bars to the mounting brackets were incorrect size. I reported this and they sent exactly the same bolts as replacement. I was then informed that I needed to figure out the issue with the manufacturer and that etrailer could not do anything about it. Ended up getting bolts from the local hardware store rather than waste hours with RhinoRack support.

by:

Cross bars and anchors were top notch. Supplied fittings were all different sizes and shapes. Had to purchase additional fittings to make it work. Instructions were brutal. Ended up just figuring it out myself. Lots of trial and error. Finally got it on, after about 3 hours of messing around with everything. That's what 600 bucks gets you these days.

Well packed, easy instructions, solid installation feeling with professional results.

Dressed in business casual, I removed the covers and installed the racks in less than 30 minutes so we could drive it on the expressway and check for wind noise and no wind noise.

The Allen wrench tool worked great, there was minor alignment on one nut, other wise, with a small flat headed screw driver to remove the covers, and a Phillips head screw driver to secure the bars, it was really straight forward and easy to get professional results.

We just attached a hundred pounds of wood and it rode perfectly and again no noticeable noise or issues of any kind.

I kept the heavy plastic packing and slit it to protect the bars from scuffing, wrapping the clear plastic and securing it with small strips of 3M duct tape and then remover them.

We used one of the packing bags to place the instructions, the old covers, and the covers provided and the tool to store with the spare tire.

Great design, we like the black, on a black car and it works great.

Thanks for a great product and your video guides ensure even a first timer, has the confidence to do it and do it right.

One recommendation: Deburr the inside of the aluminum extrusion (mounting bracket) and the tube slides in easily for everyone. Regardless, it went together with a little extra pressure.

I purchased these crossbars for my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee to replace some janky numbers that came with the vehicle when I purchased it, and I am SO glad I did! These bars are utterly silent, even when traveling down the highway at 80mph with the sunroof open. I get more noise off of the incorporated deflector on the sunroof itself. To be as fair as possible, I will say that I did experience some noise in two very specific instances. There was an odd, low-pitched "howling" tone (definitely not a whistle) while traveling in an abnormally strong cross wind; 70 to 80mph gusts that were perpendicular to the vehicle. But once I turned into the wind, the noise was completely gone. The second instance of noise, this one a whistle, does occur when the vent option on the sunroof is in use. I never use the vent; my sunroof is either open, or it isn't, so I'm not affected. But you might be if you like the vent. Another positive is that they look fantastic. I love the sleek, low-profile look! They were easy to install, though I will say the instructions could use a little more written guidance along with the illustrations. Lastly, the only other negative I would mention is that for the amount spent on the bars, I did not expect to have to cut out the foam padding for the foot kit. That should have been pre-cut. Other than those very minor points, I would 100% recommend these bars to anyone looking add them. They are well worth the money spent!

Overview
-------------
I purchased
these for my Grand Cherokee after looking at options from Yakima and Thule. Only Thule made an equivalent model (aero bars that fit direct to the rails with no unsightly over-hang) but they were more than twice the price of these. I figured its pretty unlikely Thule makes a product over twice as good so gave these a shot.

Video Demo & Fitting
------------------------------
The video etrailer provides for these bars is a nice touch. The demonstrator only shows the install of the rear bar which is a good call because the rear bar is the tricky one. You should do as shown and partially screw down one side, then the other, and repeat until both sides are fully screwed down. Its tempting to just bang out one side and do the other but because the fit is TIGHT that doesn't work.

Point to note - she says that the mounts on the bars screw in with the smaller 20mm long screws and the bars screw to the mounts with the 25mm screws. That is THE OPPOSITE of what you should do (also the opposite of what the instructions say to do). :-) 25mm screws for mounts into rails is the ticket.

Getting the rubber mounts into the brackets is easy in some cases, and a total PITA for others. Probably a QC issue - just use warm water and soap to make it simpler.

I didn't have to take a mallet to the bars to get them into the mounts, they slipped right in.

You will have to cut a small section of rubber channel guard to complete the block out of the accessories channel. This isn't mentioned in the instructions. Seems a little sloppy of Rhino not to cut the rubber to the right size so that this isn't necessary but whatever.

As others note, you will strip the 'security screws' (must be a Aussie thing) if you just torque everything and rush the job. If you plan on taking the kit off and on the truck a lot,

Taking my time this took me over an hour but it was my first time.

Delivery
------------

I ordered late on the Thursday before Christmas from the very helpful Michelle S and with 2 day shipping was told to expect it on the 26th. Amazingly, the bars arrived on the SATURDAY, 36 hours after I'd placed my order. Faster than the 2 business day shipping I ordered!

Road Test
---------------

As I want the leave the bars on permanently, I really wanted bars that make no appreciable noise at speed. Did a quick highway test at up to 80 mph and couldn't hear the bars making any sound at all which is GREAT. Granted, I have a lift and AT tires - if you're running highway tires and regular suspension YMMV.

Overall
-----------

I like'em! Good value. Bit of a pain to fit but worth it.
