Video Transcript for Yakima HighRoad Roof Bike Rack Review - 2019 Nissan Sentra

Hey everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer, and today, we're taking a look at how the Yakima HighRoad Roof Mounted Bike Rack fits on the 2019 Nissan Sentra. So for your Nissan Sentra, if you want to also go riding, you have limited options for getting a bike onto your car. Now, you can get a hitch receiver and then use hitch mounted bike racks, I highly recommend that option, but if you don't have a hitch, you're then stuck to either a trunk mounted bike rack or a roof mounted bike rack. In that case, I do recommend getting a roof mounted bike rack just because it's not that big of a hassle and it's safe and secure up top. So for roof mounted bike racks, there's usually two options, one is gonna be a fork mounted where you have to take your front wheel off, the other is wheel mount where you can keep your bike as is, just pop it on there. So this has a very interesting way of holding onto your bike, you have that front hold up there, then, you make your adjustments with this back one.

Everything's pretty secure, just make sure you have a roof rack, we have the SeaSucker Monkey bars as our base. I personally recommend this for your road bikes, we can also use this with your other bikes. This is entirely wheel mounted, so there's no contact with the frame, that's why your carbon fiber frame bike's perfectly fine. This can also fit for your mountain bikes or your larger bikes. You have a maximum weight capacity of 45 pounds, and your maximum tire width can be up to four inch wide tires.

To take the bike off, I actually start at the straps. Press the stop, press this lever that disengages the strap, so then you can lift this up and out the way. You can actually slide this, there we go, so it doesn't get caught up in your spokes. See how that cradle slides back and forth That's because this can fit a different wheel bases. Maximum wheel base will be up to 48 inches.

Then, to take the bike off, you're gonna have to loosen your front wheel. So make sure to hold onto your frame or hold onto your bike as you loosen this knob. This then allows your bike rack to release that front wheel, keep going until you have more space. Now, once you push this all the way down, you should then have enough clearance to safely grab your bike off your roof. Roof mounted bike racks are actually okay with a Sentra, because the Sentra is closer to the ground compared to your taller SUVs, but also, in case you can't reach it since wheel mount will give you a little extra height and clearance, we have some step stool options for you.

If you want, you can get one portable to keep inside your trunk. And if you're not planning on taking your bike around, this also folds down to be more compact and streamlined. You can can also see how it matches the front of the rack, so it's a nice sleek look. Those mounts also hide the straps, so when those mounts are up and out of the way, you can see here how I have it in the lock position now, you just slide that out, and then it's in the open position. It just clips into, creates that tension. So if we bring this down, you can see how it's a thin strap, it does have security features on the inside, this just wraps around your crossbar and then holds everything in place. So here's some quick measurements for your Sentra. For height, it depends on what roof rack you have, for example, with our SeaSuckers here, 10 inches is the top of the bike rack, so very streamlined when it's in the down position. As for if you can put other things on your roof, yes for sure, does depend on the length of your crossbar if you want other accessories on the other side or even more bike racks. So my personal thoughts on the Yakima HighRoad system is I do like how you have that knob that just secures that front wheel. That way, you can kinda get your bike situated up against that front clamp as you get the back clamp up in place. Now, the downsides to this is you are gonna need a little bit extra height to get that up there as compared to a fork mount bike rack, we can kinda clip in there and then do what you need to do. So, other than that, solid bike rack, definitely something worth considering. depending on the size of your bikes. Hopefully, this video helped you out to see if this is the right fit for you. This right here was a look at the Yakima HighRoad Roof Mounted Bike Rack on the 2019 Nissan Sentra..
