It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

ShockStrap Ratcheting Tie-Down

shockstrap double j strap with shock

Made in America to military-grade specifications, this one-of-a-kind ratchet strap from ShockStrap is great for nearly any application, from securing cargo on your vehicle for your next weekend getaway, to strapping down your favorite toys on your trailer. The 27' length of this strap is perfect for securing heavy loads to your trailer and tying down UTVs and utility tractors.

Unlike traditional straps, which don't stretch or contract, this tie-down is uniquely designed with built-in shock absorbers that allow the strap to maintain constant tension on your load as you travel. This is great for vehicles with suspension systems that can compress and rebound when you travel rough terrain.

Built-In Shocks

shockstrap rubber shock

The webbing of a standard strap can't stretch or contract to absorb impacts. As a result, standard tie-downs might become detached from their anchor points, or they may become slack around your gear as the load shifts. But this ratchet strap features 2 built-in urethane shocks that are designed to absorb impact and to allow give. This ensures that the tie-down stays taut and won't loosen over time. The built-in shocks help to keep the tie-down from coming loose or failing, which could result in lost or damaged gear.

In addition, the shock ensures a longer life for the strap webbing. If you use this to tie down a UTV, for example, the constant compressing and rebounding of the UTV's suspension during travel can wreak havoc on ordinary straps. The webbing is likely to experience more wear and tear as it rubs along your gear. But the ShockStrap's shock absorbs these jolts so that the webbing of the tie-down stays put instead of wearing over the edges of your equipment.

Easy-to-Use Ratchet

shockstrap large handle ratchet

This tie-down features a commercial-grade, field-replaceable ratchet that is easy to use. To release the ratchet, grab the oversized handle and pull on the release lever. The release lever is positioned on the outside of the ratchet to ensure safe and easy operation, even if you're wearing gloves.

How to Use the ShockStrap Ratchet Strap

shockstrap double j hooks

To use the ShockStrap ratcheting tie-down strap, first attach one of the sturdy double J-hooks to a desired anchor point. Then stretch the strap over your cargo and secure the other hook to a point on the opposite side of your truck or trailer. Each hook has a wide opening, making it hassle-free to maneuver and attach the hooks to your anchor points.

shockstrap soft loop with double j hooks

Soft loops, which are on both sides of the strap, can be used to tie down a piece of equipment that may otherwise be difficult to secure. So instead of using the hooks, which may scratch or scuff your toys and might be difficult to run through or around other cargo, you can easily cinch the tie-down around your gear. Just wrap a soft tie around the axle of your UTV and then secure the tie-down to your anchor points as usual.

Once the hooks are in place, tighten the webbing around the cargo and activate the shocks. To tighten the strap, crank the ratchet mechanism until the webbing is taut around your load. Be sure not to overtighten the strap. If your hand cannot fit between the shock and the safety strap, the strap is too tight.

To activate the shocks, tighten the strap a bit more, stretching the shocks until light is visible through the bolt holes in each shock. In warm climates, the shocks can stretch up to 2", while in subzero climates you may only get about 1/2" of give.

Finally, after tightening the webbing and stretching the shocks, make sure your cargo is completely secure and then tie off any extra slack.

Additional ShockStrap accessories can be added to help with load securement. Use the ShockStrap strap latches (297-2STY - sold separately) to secure the hooks on this tie-down strap to anchor points, ensuring that the hooks won't pop off while you are securing your load or while you are traveling.

Strong, Durable Construction

The sturdy, UV-resistant polyester webbing of this tie-down strap has a high tolerance for abrasion and water absorption.

The shocks are made of urethane, which can withstand elements such as sunlight, saltwater, moisture, oil, fungi, and most chemicals. These shocks can function in nearly any temperature, holding up to hot and cold weather conditions without losing elasticity or becoming unyielding or brittle over time.

The rust-resistant, yellow zinc chromate coating on the ratchet and hardware holds up to the varying weather conditions.

A safety strap is also built into this tie-down to provide peace of mind should something happen to the shocks. This safety strap ensures that if the tie-down is used improperly, overloaded, or unduly stretched, your cargo will remain secured.

Video Transcript for Review of ShockStrap Ratchet Straps - Trailer - Truck Bed - SS88MV

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this ShockStrap 27 foot long ratchet tie-down strap with the shock absorbers. It's for a quantity of one strap. Now, this shock absorbing, ratcheting tie-down strap will let you secure the cargo in your truck bed or your trailer. And I want to zoom in on the unique feature of this strap which is this built-in urethane shock absorbers right here.

You can see, these are designed to help absorb any impact to ensure constant tension of the strap even as your load shifts. These shock absorbers, they're made of a urethane-based material that stands up to extreme temperatures, to saltwater, moisture, oil, and most chemicals. You can see they attached these shock absorbers to this strap by using the sturdy grade eight bolts and the nylock nuts that'll hold the shocks in place. And if you notice on the backside here, they have this extra strap that goes connecting both sides. This is a safety strap and they designed that, it's for two purposes.

First, it's an extra strap if for some reason, these shock absorbers would break. So, it's just a safety feature. Now, for these shock absorbers to break, it'd be highly unlikely cause the manufacturer says they would have to stretch 18 to 20 inches before they had a chance of breaking. And you're never gonna get them stretched that far. You can see you as you tighten it down, it'll hardly move at all.

So, chances of that happening are not really there. But the second reason they do the safety strap is it gives you, acts as a tension limiter so you don't over-ratchet the strap. And what it does is when you hook your hooks up and then ratchet it down as you're tightening it up, it'll stretch these some, and then that safety strap will get close to them. So, it gives you a guideline. What they say is if you take your hand and you slide it in and out, that'll give you the amount of tension that you'll need on that strap.

So, when you're cranking it down, just always check. And as long as you have a room in there to put your hand in and out, that'll get you the right tension. Now, this strap is made in the USA to military-grade specifications. And it is DOT approved, which is Department of Transportation. Now, because of this unique shock absorber feature, these straps are great for securing your cargo that has a suspension system that could compress and rebound when you travel rough terrain. So, these will work great for tying down snowmobiles, motorcycles, utility tractors, ATVs, UTVs. Cause all those, all those items have a suspension system which could move. So, in other words, if you ever tighten them down, as you get it tight and then if you go over a rough bump or a hole, it would cause the suspension of the cargo to compress. And it could loosen your straps, possibly even unhook your straps. But with this, with these unique feature of the shock absorbers, it'll always keep tension on the strap. So, you won't run into that problem with these straps. Now, the ratchet mechanism right here, this will make it very easy to tighten down each strap and maintain tension on the strap. You can see, they do use a very nice large handle that you can grip. And right in the middle is the release handle or the release lever. This will ensure simple, safe operation. Even if you're wearing thick gloves, you'd still be able to operate this. And basically, what you'll be doing is, let me just zoom out and I'll show you. As you pull up on this, you can see as you pull up on it, it's cranking in your strap so you're tightening it up. And then, the other neat feature on this is when you're gonna hook up the strap and you need to pull some length out. To make it easy, all you have to do is pull up on this release lever, release the handle all the way over, and then push it down until it locks into place out of the ratchet system. And that'll let you freewheel or free spool out some strap. You can see, pull out as much as you need. Just keep pulling it. When you get it far enough and make your connection, then all you do is pull that lever again to raise the handle into the ratchet. And again, just like that, ratchet it to tighten it up. So, it's very easy to operate, very easy to hook up. Now, the minimum usable length on this, in other words, the smallest it'll go is 32 inches. Also on each end, I wanted to show you, I'll zoom in again. Has the double J hooks on both ends. Very sturdy, heavy-duty. They have nice wide openings. Allows for a hassle-free connection to the anchor points. And also, if you noticed what's connected to them, it has these integrated soft loops. It's a strap with a loop on the end. And what that's used for, you don't have to use it, but in some cases, you don't wanna hook these metal hooks to like, let's say, a metal handlebar and scratch it. So, what you can do is wrap this around the handlebars, hook the hoop, the loop onto your hook. And once you get it on there, then just like that, it'll be held on by this strap with the loop on it. Keep this from any damage. And again, you don't have to use it, but in a case where you don't wanna damage anything, it's good to use. Now, all the steel hardware on the strap is a corrosion-resistant yellow zinc coating on all the hardware. The webbing on this is a durable, two inch wide polyester webbing. It is UV resistant. Withstands abrasions and water absorption. Do wanna zoom out again. So, that on the strap, that it's two inches wide. This one is 27 feet in length. Now, they do offer other lengths that we do sell separately on our website. They offer a shorter nine foot length which is part number SS68MV, or an 18 foot length which is part number SS78MV. Again, both of those are sold separately on our website. Now, the maximum load or breaking strength, they have a little tag here that will be stamped on there, is 10,000 pounds on this strap. And it also lists the safe working load limit. Now, the safe working load limit is always one third of what the breaking strength is. So on this one, the working load limit will be 3,333 pounds. Now, one note I do want to mention is the tie-down straps must be chosen according to that safe working load limit cause the weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined working load limit of your straps that are being used. So, just to give you an example, if you're using straps that have a 500 working load limit each, and you're tying down the load to raise a thousand pounds, that means you're gonna need two straps to safely secure that load. And it is always recommended that you use straps in pairs. But that should do it for the review on the ShockStrap 27 foot long ratchet tie-down strap with the shock absorbers for a quantity of one strap..

Way better than standard tie downs. Holds better if you tighten enough as compared to standard tie down and does not slack up

by:

These are just what I was looking for and more. Was looking for motorcycle tie-down that wrapped around handlebars. The shock absorber is a bonus.

by:

The product performed as it was advertised. The straps were well constructed and it was obvious a great deal of thought went into the design. I shoot sporting clay targets and haul a John Deere Gator 825 XUV to events, as a means of transportation around the course. Roads traveling to and from events, often, are gravel or dirt. This can and does create rough road surfaces to pull trailers and XUVs on. I used the Shock Straps this past week and watched to Gator as I drove on some rough terrain. The Gator did not move or sway during the trip. When I got to my destination, the straps were as tight as when I left for the trip. There was absolutely no play in the straps. Previously, I was always adjusting the straps and the XUV would rock and bounce on rough terrain. No any more.

by:

I use these to tie down Honda Rancher ATVs, I took out the rubber shock as it's useless(too stiff) for the weight of the ATV and provides no shock motion. The strap itself is unbeatable. Heavy duty, with the loop and latching hook that make this strap a super safe option. The strap and hook WILL NOT come off going down a rough road, due to the safety mechanisms. Well worth the price if you want long lasting AND safety as peace of mind.

by:

Best strap I have had for timing down my Polaris Ranger!

by:

I ordered these to strap down an ATV for several hour highway trips during hunting season. They work great and my atv does not bounce around and loosen the straps like traditional ratchet straps do. I've recommended to several friends who have also ordered and have the same success. Great product!

by:

The etrailer team set up my account for no sales tax (we are a school) quick and easy. Once I placed my order, it arrived just as quick. I recommend etrailer very highly.

by:

I should have bought the straps that bolt to the trailer.
These work but not much need for the shock feature or the loops at the end of the strap.

by:

I love the Shock straps. After using them for a year they are still working great. I would recommend to anyone.

by:

This review is more of etrailer not a product. Ordered these tiedowns for a birthday gift. Website indicated delivery in 4 to 5 days. They didn’t even ship for nearly a week, birthday came and went its need 12 days since ordering and still have not received the item. If you really want these tiedowns, find them somewhere else other than etrailer.

by:

They look nice and heavy and made of good quality materials reason for 4 stars I haven’t used them yet

by:

Excellent product. The heat does cause the rubber coating on the hooks if they're tied down for any length of time. Sometimes the locking mechanism gets stuck in an in-between position and it's difficult to unlock; however, these are still the best straps I've ever had and I've had zero load shifting problems or broken straps. I will definitely buy a second set.

by:

Like everyone else I would go through the efforts of strapping down a utv only to see my ratchet straps hanging off the trailer as I look at my review mirror 10 minutes into my trip. Never again! Used these on a 200 mile round trip down all kinds of roads (freeway, country roads, dirt roads, etc) and never had to adjust or tighten them. A must have.

by:

These straps are great. The are strong and allow for some movement of the motorcycles without have the straps break or come loose. The Harley was transported to Las Vegas and back, 2500 miles with no issues.

by:

WELL MADE HEAVY DUTY, WISH THEY HAD THE CARRY BAG

by:

Easy to assemble, easy to use. I lug around my 450SXF on my 2005 Prius. Works great.

by:

exactly as advertised

by:

Knowledgeable staff helped me make the right decision

by:

I was looking for tie down straps to haul my ATV as well as my garden tractor. The standard straps were okay but did seem to loosen up after traveling for awhile. So I took a chance on these ones based on the details one etrailer as well as reviews. I have not been disappointed. They worked as described and do not loosen in transit. I would definitely purchase again.

by:

Very well thought out product. Works well on the front of my BMW K1600GTL. Allows some movement, to minimize road shock, without allowing the bike to loosen up, especially as the Duolever front does not compress the fork spring when strapped down.

by:

Geesh these are really large! Bought these over the 1.5" as it was almost the same price. But now getting them, I almost wish I got the small version for our Dirt Bikes. But these will for sure more then do! Heck.. I could even use them to pull a car out of a mud pit with these 2"ers. I'll keep them vs swapping for the smaller..

by:

Heavy duty straps straped my utv down made a 2 hour trip they stayed tight just like they advertise had good promt service with etrailer they are more expensive than some other straps but very much worth it

by:

Awesome product, performs better than I expected. Super strong and built well. Well worth the money invested.

by:

They do not slip

by:

Well after one year I give it a 4 star plus rating. I haul a $1,500 snow thrower and I do not want it sliding around or coming loose. This product claimed it will hold...and it did...I tried good looking store bought straps and sometimes I would not even drive a mile and they were loose. I cannot afford that! BUT for as much as I am in and out with my work I wish they were a little quicker for me to secure. It is not that difficult once you get the hang of it, but I do it 15 times per snow fall and I would dream of straps secure and very fast to secure. Maybe secure hooks on each connection and no sifting strap thru each time. OVERALL if you want your cargo not to shift or come loose BUY THESE.
