Video Transcript for WeatherTech Window Rain Guards Review

Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the WeatherTech Rain Guards. These are gonna be great for just kind of keeping the heat a little lower in your vehicle so you can kind of crack your windows and just allow a little bit of air flow without having a direct path into your vehicle. This kit's gonna come with both the driver and passenger side front windshield. So if you do want to do it for all of the different vehicles, just use our fit guide. It's gonna give you the list of them. You can either buy them just the front and just the back, or you can buy them all as a kit.

WeatherTech is gonna provide a little bit thicker rain guard compared to some of the other ones. I actually took off my OEM ones, which as you can see, very, very thin, very flimsy, and they started to crack over time. So these aren't gonna crack near as quickly as these did. Also a nice thing about these compared to the OEM ones, as you can see, all that glue and stuff. So these actually sat up top.

So it wasn't as near as aerodynamic as the WeatherTech. So this is gonna bring my wind noise down a lot, and it is very low profile. So you can see the difference between the one that goes on the inside of the little channel compared to the one right behind you, which is on the outside like I was talking about before. I like the look of the WeatherTechs better, and this is not as efficient when it comes to aerodynamics. So we're getting the same amount of benefit as the OEM ones.

We just get a better looking one. It's a nice dark tint, a little bit darker than these right here. And, overall, it's gonna add to the look of my car, which is kind of what I was going for. All of them install the same exact way, both the driver and the passenger side. So if you wanna see how quick the process is, stick around.

We wanna start with the front. So just make sure you have the right side. And this is gonna go in the channel that the window goes in. So roll up your window, see the little slot where it goes in, and that's where this is gonna be. So what we wanna do is start with the front. Get it kinda into that slot the best we can, like this. And then we're gonna have to slowly kind of bend this to get it up into place. We'll be kinda gentle with it, kind of lean it down, that seems to help a little bit, kind of go up like this. They say to leave a gap right here, once it kind of gets into place, then you wanna go into the driver's side and we're just gonna kind of roll it up, but we're gonna do it really, really slowly just to make sure that nothing really bad happens. So just roll up your window. You can see how it's kind of pushing out. All right. All right, so now it's at least bypassing the window. So now I have to do that a couple of different times. We wanna kind of hopefully take out that gap a little bit. Just by coming over, just pushing up a little bit like that. And then we're just kind of gonna go ahead and put it up and put it down about five different times, nice and slow. And five. So we're pretty much good there. Once that's done, you can do that same exact process on the other side. And that'll do it for our look at the WeatherTech Rain Guards..

It’s still early. I did the upgrade while in a walking boot (cannot drive) due to an Achilles rupture. So I can only comment on the install, which was much easier on the back windows. The front windows were a little awkward but eventually went in. I don’t like the ‘clunk’ as the window closes in the last inch or so. The window comes in contact with the deflector and clunks. I hope the plastic heats / cools and reforms as it sits over the next few days. Otherwise I like the look and finish, it’s just the fit which I’m not completely convinced off yet.

After a few days the guards had found their natural place and the slight annoyance from the closing window contacting the guard had gone away. I think that they just needed to conform after the install. I’m super happy that I purchased these and not the exterior stick-on type. They have a factory-look and are ideal when I want to crack the window during rain or wind. Highly recommended.

@John good to know thanks!

Good fit after a finnicky installation. The front guards do not use an adhesive to install, just pressure, so time will tell how they hold up, but initial impressions are good.

by:

Fits well. Easy to install and keeps rain from coming into the car when I open the windows an inch or two for ventilation

by:

Easy install. Took about 20 minutes to complete. Needed asap so chose 3 day shipping and in true etrailer style arrived in 2. As always the install video on etrailer was a real help. They are great at tips and fine points. Thanks to Brandon for his help and follow-up. Outstanding service, support and follow up

2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

Installed the front Side Window Deflectors on the 2017 Subaru Outback, after watching the factory video and reading the included instructions. The overall installation was easy, however the location of the "weather strip clips" was not 100% clear. They were NOT shown in the factory video and could be placed in two different ways over the window gasket material........... over the window trim and outside the rubber window seal..... or over the window trim and inside the rubber window seal. Tried them both ways to find out which one was correct, which caused me to remove one of the deflectors after they were installed. Guessed that the clip should be outside the rubber window track?????
Also noticed increased wind noise at highway speed with the deflectors installed.

Jon, I called the manufacturer and verified that these are installed through the front flap, pushed up with the included special tool, where they will rest outside the seal, but inside the first flap of weatherstrip. Feel free to call us with any further questions. We would love to help!

2018 Dodge Ram Pickup

I purchased these for a new, 2018 Subaru Outback. The rear window deflectors fit perfectly and went on easily.
The front window deflectors did not fit. When installed, the windows bound up on the front of the window and would not go up. I feel they are too long for the window. I tried to install in all different ways but to no avail - the window would not work.
I previously installed on a new Ram truck and Ford F-150 without any issue. I contacted Weathertech but did not get any response.

I have spoken with my contacts at WeatherTech and these deflectors have a small clip that needs to be installed in the front of the window sill. It gets taped to the outer gasket of the Outback and it sits very close to the rear view mirror. This clip helps to hold the deflector up and keep it tight within the window channel. I have included a link to an installation video, this clip is featured at about 2 minutes 45 seconds of the install video of this install for your reference as well as the installation instructions for your reference. If this clip is not installed it may sag and appear to be too loose of a fit and too long for the window.

My guards came broken, but thankfully WeatherTech replaced them directly. The only other issue I have with them is one of my windows catches on it every time and I have to risk my finger pushing out the plastic so the window will go all the way up. It is Great for keeping out the rain while airing out the car.

I recommend reinstalling the defector and making sure to leave the window closed for 12 hours.

I could never install the front window guards, they are very loose in the window frame and even my window does not go up! very disappointing! can I return the front guards ? or the 4 guards?

Watch the attached video at the 2:20 mark. You will need to pull on the deflector to make the tape stick and that also makes sure any gaskets are not pinched. By moving the window up and down a few times, it ensures that the deflector is seating correctly.

My computer literacy is minimal at best. If you would like to add the comments below for my review it would be appreciated.

2015 Subaru Outback Weathercraft Window Deflectors were easy to install and look great! E-Trailer offered them at a great price.
Very pleased with the purchase and service.

2016 Subaru Outback Wagon

I bought these air deflectors for my 2016 Subaru Outback. Installation was easy enough and they seem to be very securely attached. They work great for keeping out rain with the windows partially opened, either when parked or driving. Besides that, they look good.

by:

Front deflectors had scuffs on them that would not come off, appears to be from packaging from weather tech. etrailer has started the process of replacement.Have made several purchases from etrailer and continue to be impressed with service and products. This is the first time I had a problem and hope it goes well with return and replacement.

Easy installation, perfect function. What's left to say except that etrailer is a great place to order what you need. Excellent service and follow-up. Recommended to all.

by:

They truly work well. The passenger front window had a little issue with closing initially but has since closed fine.

by:

Easy to install. Holding up really well. Very happy with the product and service

First bad experience with a WeatherTech product. Do not recommend for 2010-2014 Ford Expedition or similar models. I see 4 flaws.

3 of 4 pieces cracked at the corner even when I tried to be as gentle as possible in incrementally raising windows once installed. It seems to be just a few millimeters too oversized.

Second, Rear windows will not raise all the way back in place due to thickness of plastic, it stops. You have to push windshield up while holding the switch.
I was worried that this force would damage the window tint due to excess friction and it may push the rubber out to the point it would be damaged if I took them off months or years later.

Third, and arguably the most important. Too much wind noise. The Ford Expedition is very quiet for an SUV. I tried these for close to a week and I had to take them off. It sounded like gusty wind noise even when there was no wind other then the vehicle going through the air. I removed them and the SUV was quiet again.

Four, It isn't optically correct. Hard to see in the photo, but when looking at the area between the A pillar and side mirror, it's wavy and distracting. Also makes the A pillar appear much larger when it's darker outside due to the tint.

So even though they look nice, and you can crack your windows in the rain if your car is sitting still or you never exceed 50 mph... I wasn't able to get comfortable with the above issues. I can't return them since I installed them and tried them. But hopefully someone else can benefit from this.

by:

These weather tech side window rain guards are really well made. Front ones installed easily and allow us to crack open the windows even in the rain. I could not for the life of me install the rear ones, or I would have given them 5 stars.

by:

The front rain guards fit my 2023 Passport perfectly. The rears weren't setting correctly in the window seal and neither rear window would roll up completely. Also, when I remove the two rear rain guards, I noticed the thinnest part, which is supposed to go between the window seal and the glass had broken in use. I have no patience for this, so I threw the rears in the trash. In retrospect, I'd have have rated these a 5 if I'd only purchased the fronts.
