Will Torklift GlowStep Camper Scissor Steps Work for You?
Scissor steps are typically installed on truck campers. The GlowStep scissor steps from Torklift are simple to install. After the initial installation, they're also easy to attach when needed and detach for compact storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.
The Torklift GlowStep scissor steps have a single mounting bracket that attaches to either the camper wall or the truck bumper beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available for the mounting bracket on your application and measure the width and height.
Once you have an approximation of where the mounting bracket will go, the spot you chose will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.
How Many Steps Do You Need?
To decide on how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, and it will tell you how many steps you need.

How Do You Install the Steps?
To install the steps:
-Make sure the assembly is centered beneath the doorway
-Secure in place with included lag screws
Add any of these accessories to your GlowSteps for stability, eliminating gaps, and keeping your steps and RV interior clean. The GlowGuide handrail (TLA7621 - sold separately) attaches to the outside of your RV and a bracket on the bottom of the steps. This helps to steady the assembly and adds 25 lbs to the weight capacity of the stairs. The SafeStep vinyl barrier (TLA7602 - sold separately) easily fastens with Velcro strips in between any 2 steps. This prevents you or your pets from accidentally slipping between steps. The DirtDestroyer boot brush (TLA7603 - sold separately) affixes to the bottom of the steps so you can scrape your shoes before climbing into your RV.

Hello, neighbors and friends, Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at the TorkLift GlowStep camper steps, and they're a scissor step, and it's a four-step step. Now folks, these pullout steps make it really simple, easy to get in and out of your truck bed camper. The narrow steps are perfect for truck campers with skinny entry doors, and the scissor design lets you manually collapse and open the steps when it's time to fold 'em up for travel. So I kind of demo that real quick, simple fold-up design. They've even got, step up closer here, they even got a cable here.
You fold 'em up enough, you can put that cable in there, and then they're not gonna come back on you when you're traveling. Now, taking that cable back off, and you can kind of see that scissor design there from the side. Very nice, very easy to open. And I'll go ahead and put them back over here. Now, keep in mind this mounting bracket up here would be mounted to the camper, and then you could simply pull a pin on both sides and have the steps off.
Now, one thing I wanna mention is this glow tape. I'll zoom into the top here. So on each step there's one on each side, and this glow tape is really amazing. It glows in the dark for up to 10 hours with only five minutes of light exposure. I will turn off the overhead lights now and kind of demo that for you.
All right, so you can kind of see that glow there and I'll change my camera angle farther away. You can kind of see each tape there. I know you can't see it perfect with the indoor lighting and whatnot, but you kinda get the picture, right So again, 10 hours of light with only five minutes of light exposure. Pretty impressive. Now, these aircraft grade aluminum and stainless steel steps and risers and everything have this tread molded into them.
So it's gonna give you a nice, sure grip whenever you're walking on there. And like I said, the steel, or stainless steel, rather, hinges here on the sides, those are bolted together for easy add-on removal or even replacement of an individual step. So maybe you get a different camper in the future and you want to either remove a step or add one, it's pretty simple to do. Now, this is made here in the US. As far as some dimensions, these steps are 18 inches wide. So 18 inches wide. They're about six inches deep, and the whole capacity of this guy is 375 pounds. So it really is a nice, simple, easy to use application, but yet very, very sturdy. Now, one thing I do wanna point out again back from the top here is the hardware. You're gonna get a bag of hardware. I left it here in the bag just 'cause there's a lot of stuff and I'm limited with space with the steps out. But you get all the mounting hardware, fish tape, and the included instructions to install it as well. So you're gonna have everything you need, folks, to get these safely installed and use them. I have purchased a ton of accessories made by TorkLift that I purchased from/through etrailer. TorkLift Fastguns, frame mounted truck camper tie-downs, upper and lower StableLoads and last year I replaced my factory RV steps with these TorkLift GlowSteps. I had a problem fitting the “scissor steps” to my truck camper because my measurements fell in between the measurements nessesary for three-step set and a two-step set of stairs. After much debate I purchased the 3 step set and it turned out that the 2 step GlowSteps actually fit my application much better. etrailer customer service assisted me making the exchange as inexpensive and fast as possible. We as consumers have countless retail outlets to purchase from online from but it is good customer service that keeps us using and supporting the same business repeatedly. etrailer? The 5 step Torklift steps work very well for our setup. We have a Ram pickup that is lifted and running 37" tires. Bought the steps for a Four Wheel Camper Hawk popup camper. The mount point for the stairs is 42" off the ground, so we needed a good solution for entry/exit, it's way too tall for us to use step stools or short ladders.
The steps were easy to install (took about 30 minutes total) and are very solid in use. The landing gear option for the base was a very good addition as we are almost always camped on uneven terrain. The landing gear is very adjustable with enough steps/stops so I can always get the steps level and solid.
Attaching and removing the steps is pretty quick. They weigh 31.5 lbs, so there's a bit of heft to them, but to be expected for something as heavy duty as these are.
Overall, my wife and I really like the steps after our first year of use. They are solid, the treads provide a good grip even when wet, snowy, muddy, or all of the above. The glow strips are nice too in the late evening or middle of the night and provide a good step guide.
These are very high quality steps! I mounted them to a large aluminum storage box that I have on a receiver style hitch plate The box and step combo make it really nice for getting up and into my camper. The nice thing about these steps is that you can purchase addition mounts and place them at other locations and use the same steps. They also fold and stow very neatly. I purchased the pin lock assy.... but if you have the room they are easy to remove and store elsewhere.
I bought these stairs at what I felt was a pretty hefty price only to find it either used or a demonstrator model with scratches and dings directly from the sealed box from the manufacturer. Furthermore the manufacturing process has poor quality control with the aluminum struts having been cut with a water-jet and never being eased or smoothed out in any way. Next, the holes in the bracket are 3/8" in diameter but the supplied lag bolts which some of us must use due to the design of our campers are tiny #14 x 1 1/2! Right in the literature it says if you use the supplied lag bolts your warranty is void. Yes, you read that right. Oh, someone needs a swift kick! A trip to town and I bought bigger, longer stainless steel lags and bushings to make it work right but obviously these should have been included. HOWEVER - etrailer was excellent to work with and had superior communication at every step. They were also very gracious in addressing my concerns.
The Torklift steps are so functional and comfortable for my basement slide in. And etrailer is my goto for purchases of rv pieces and parts.

The perfect item to make easier access in and out of our Arctic Fox 1150. It work well with the Torklift glow steps. I love when folded down you can still access the storage tray. One very minor disappointment the instructions shows lock washer which my hardware pack did not have in it.

We are so glad we invested in these. I have bad knees and use a cane, so having these wide and sturdy steps makes it easy for me to enter and exit using my cane! Our setup is a little unusual, a built up canopy on a dually flatbed. The steps are so quick and easy to put up and down. We bought the six step model but found we only needed five. With some online instructions wow were able to tackle that too. We also bought the small keyed lock that is available.

Scissor steps seem fine; just got them mounted on Ford F150 tailgate. Thus, no real feedback on their function other than I like stairs easily detach from truck and mounting bracket.
Installation on tailgate was very difficult. I had to construct my own mounting bracket to back up sheet metal on the tailgate. Underneath the tailgate plastic endcap, the sheet metal had several large holes. The Torklift mounting bracket bolt hole pattern aligned with multiple large holes. Thus I had to construct my own mounting bracket back plate to span the holes in sheet metal.
Etrailer rep answered my online question that the Torklift mounting bracket was good fit for mounting on tailgate of F150. He was wrong and mislead me. Thus giving 2 star rating
