Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your liftgate stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your liftgate to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Custom Fit Hatch Lift Support Gas Strut. Now, this is a custom fit part, it is designed to fit the 2008 to 2016 Smart Fortwo vehicles, and on a custom fit part like this, I do like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you if this will work for your application. Now, this part here will replace a worn or damaged ball and socket gas strut for your vehicle's hatch. The arm portion right here on the gas strut will extend to hold your hatch open, gently compress while it's closing. Does use dampening technology, which will provide a nice smooth operation that eliminates any bouncing or jumping, and it'll ensure frictionless movement in all weather conditions.
The steel shaft portion right here is a nitride coated steel shaft, it is corrosion resistant for long-lasting performance, and the tube right here is a powder coated tube, gives you superior corrosion resistance. Now, to install this, it easily installs in minutes, there's no special tools required. All you have to do, on each end, is a nylon ball and socket connector, which you'll install directly to your existing OEM fittings on your vehicle. And to remove your old strut, what you wanna do is get a small flat tip screwdriver, pry up the retaining clips on each end, once you pry those up, you can remove the strut from the ball. And then to install this new strut, all you have to do is line the socket right here over the ball, and then push it into place, and when you push it in, that retaining clip will snap in there and lock it into place.
Now, these must be installed in the same position as the ones which are being removed, and it is recommended to replace these gas struts in pairs. Again, this one is for a quantity of one lift support, connection type is ball socket. Few measurements on this, the length, which is measured from the center to the center of each ball socket. So we can see if we go center to center, it's gonna be right at 17 9/16 inches, and when this is compressed, the compressed length is gonna be 10 7/16 inches.
