Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your vehicle with this custom harness. T-connector plugs directly into existing wiring - no cutting or splicing required.
Features:
This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the rear bumper, on the passenger's side.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Speaker 1: Today on our 2005 Kia Sorrento, we're going to be taking a look at, and showing you how to install the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number HM11143985.This is what our wiring harness looks like when it's installed. As you can see, it lives outside of the vehicle. It's going to give you all the necessary functions for lighting your trailer. It's going to give you your right turn signal, left turn signal, your brake lights, your running lights, and your ground. It's also going to come with a dust cap. It's going to help keep the elements off of all of your connections, to help with any corrosion.
Since you're wiring lives outside of the vehicle, your dust cap can double as a holder to keep your wiring from touching the ground when not in use.This is what your wiring's going to look like when you get it. You're going to have your plug. It's going to plug into the factory wiring harness on the back of your vehicle. Your 4-pole connector, ground wire, and most important, the converter box. What this box is going to do, it's going to protect your vehicle from any back feed.
If there is a wiring issue with your trailer, it's going to keep your factory wiring in your vehicle or your electronics from getting damaged.What you want to look for, on your passenger's side underneath the vehicle to the right of the spare tire, in between your spare tire and your frame, you're going to look for a plug like this. It's going to have a cap on it, a protective cap. We need to remove that. Take a flathead screwdriver if you can't pop it off. You see this tab right here You want to push down on it, and it will help with a screwdriver, and then we'll just pry that cap off like that.Then we're going to take our plug in on our wiring harness.
We'll just plug the two together like that, put this back in place. As you can see, we have a bundle of wire here. To clean it up, I'm just going to take some split wire loom and add it on. This doesn't come in your kit, but you can find it on our website.Next thing I'm going to do is I need to find a good place for my converter box. I think I'm going to zip tie it right here on top of my hitch.
If you look at it, it's got two notches on each side. I'm going to take a zip tie, feed it through like this, set it up on top of the hitch, and secure it in place.Next, I'm going to wrap my 4-pole connector over like this. Get myself enough there. Next, I'm going to take all my extra wiring here, and just kind of bundle it up like this, and I'm going to zip tie to the back of the hitch.Next thing we're going to do is mount a ground wire. You need to find a good location along your frame. We're going to take our self tapping screw, and make sure that your ring terminal's not going to move. Then we'll take our extra wiring, zip tie it around to the back of our hitch.Now we'll test our wiring harness using part number I26. Left blinker, right blinker, brakes, running lights.That'll do it for the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part number HM11143985 on our 2005 Kia Sorrento.
