Specs:
Note: Do not use for overhead lifting. This load binder is designed to work as part of a complete tie-down system. The overall capacity depends on the safe working load limit (WLL) of the chain(s) that you choose, as well as the capacity of the load binder itself. The item being tied down must not exceed the combined WLL of the lowest-rated components in the system.

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Durabilt ratcheting chain binder with the grab hooks on each end for 5/8 inch to 3/4 inch size chain and has an 18,500 working load limit. Now, the ratchet chain binders like these increase the tension in the chain until it's taut using a twisting or ratcheting mechanism. And the ratchet binders often are viewed as a safer option cause they don't store as much energy in the handle, and it reduces the risk of recoil and harming the user. And the ratchet binders have the lever and screw working together, which means it takes less pulling on the handle to apply tension to the binder.
So, this is perfect for agricultural and industrial tie-down applications. I want to zoom in to show you, here's your ratcheting mechanism right here. Makes it very easy to tension equipment. And it'll allow you to safely remove the ratchet binder when finished. Has a lever right here that you can notice I'm ratcheting this way.
If you push that lever down, it'll allow you to ratchet the other way. So, it just depends on which way you need to go. Now, on each end in this binder, you can notice they have the alloy forged 3/4 inch size grab hook fittings on each end that'll let you quickly connect to your chains. The bearings right here that'll twist, they do extend out to provide extra reach when hooking the binder to your equipment. The screw diameter on these is one inch.
Now, the distance between the bearings when it's closed like it is now, it's totally, both of them are tightened all the way in, so it's gonna give you about 31 inches closed. If you unwind both of these all the way open, it gets you about 39 inch distance. So, the take up length is about eight inches. This is a steel construction, it's very durable. You can see it has a nice red paint finish on it, which is highly visible.
Now, this part does meet or exceed the FMCSA 40, CHP, CVSA, and the WSTDA and Department of Transportation standards. A few specs on this, again, the application is for chains with 5/8 inch to 3/4 inch thick lengths. Safe working load limit's 18,500 pounds. The proof load limit's 37,000 pounds. A few measurements, the handle length measured from here to the very end, it is going to be right at 15 1/2 inches. The barrel length which we measured from here to here, it's going right at 10 inches. And the total weight on this one binder is 27 pounds. But again, you could see you can ratchet it this way. If you push the lever down like that, it'll allow you to ratchet the other way. But that should do it for the review on this Durabilt ratcheting chain binder with the grab hooks for 5/8 inch to 3/4 inch size chains..
