Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a look at Coghlan's folding shovel. If you are looking for a compact yet capable folding shovel for camping, backpacking, or hiking, or working out in your garden, this might be exactly what you need. A shovel like this is great for making fire pits, digging small trenches, working in your garden, and so much more. The overall length of this shovel, from the handle to the tip of the shovel blade is sitting right at about 23 inches overall.

The shovel blade itself, from this end all the way down to the tip of the blade, we're sitting right at about 8 1/4 inches long. And then at the widest, 5 3/4 inches wide. Now, this shovel has the ability to have the shovel blade locked in a 90 degree position. And of course, the handle will fold as well. But the key to all of that is this collar.

And so, right now, the collar has the shovel blade locked in the digging position. So, it's not going to go anywhere and it's gonna be very stable while using this for digging. But when you loosen the collar as I'm doing right here, you can lock the blade in a 90 degree angle to use in this way like a garden hoe. If you wanted to use it like this, that blade will be locked into position. Now, to fold it, again, this collar is the key to everything.

When you have this collar, let me show this to you here. When you have this collar loosened up, not only is the blade free to move in whatever direction, but that's also going to loosen up the handle. So, when you're ready to fold this, you would just pull the handle towards you and you can then rotate it to close. And of course, that handle can be locked into this position as well. If you wanted to use the handle like this and lock the shovel blade in like this, it can be locked in a few different positions.

And you could lock it like this or even fold it in this direction as well. But the best way to use this is to bring this all the way over. And then once you have the handle and the shovel blade collapse like this, it is folded and it is ready for storage, whether in your backpack. And so, as you can see, it's locked into place. So, that collar's the key to everything. It's going to unlock the handle and the shovel blade, and it'll be good to go. Now, the shovel blade is constructed from a tempered steel and it features this serrated edge. And I mean, it's not like sharp, but I could see where if you put some force into it, that could cut through roots and tough soil. So, that's a nice addition to the blade. And this handle is metal, so it's all metal. And the collar here, the knob here is metal as well. So, I hope that that was helpful for you. It's a great little shovel. It's not gonna take up a whole lot of space. It's very capable. But also, it does have that great ability that you can just fold it up and put it away.
