Hi everyone, It's Evangeline here at etrailer, and today we'll be taking a look at our Coghlan's Camping Broiler. So this is a double broiler meaning, if you wanna bring out your friends, bring out your family, and you're all going out to a campsite, this will allow you to cook a little bit more food over the campfire, even if you don't have a stove. So the way this works is this is made of cast iron, so you usually get two different options when you wanna cook over your camp fire, you can get aluminum, or you can get cast iron. So the upsides to a cast iron, even though it does take a little bit more maintenance and a little bit more preparation, it is gonna be strong, durable, and it's not gonna melt in your fire. Now, this is designed to work for making burger patties, so if you are familiar with the broiling process, expect your burgers to come up a little bit crispier compared to your traditional cooking methods. But it's not just burgers that you can cook with this, you can also cook chicken, vegetables, desserts, it's really up to you.

So now this comes pre-seasoned, and what that means is once you get this, this is ready to go. Now, I personally recommend doing your own round of seasoning though, just because I do use cast iron utensils, and this does feel kind of on the dry side. Now, depending on how this is shipped to you, your climate, your situation, pre-seasoning on your own before you go out on your trip might be helpful for you. One to get a feel of how to prepare it, or how to season this, and two, just to make sure it doesn't rust up on you before your trip. Now this does come apart, notice how it has a hinge, that's perfectly fine because once you're gonna use it, you fit it into that hinge, and then you close it.

It does come with a recipe book as well as some instructions. So before your trip, please check out this recipe book, it's gonna help you figure out what kind of ingredients you wanna bring, how much portion sizes you need to prepare. Now, one example is that this can fit two chicken breasts inside this broiler, so one, and then two, and it does say to cook them for about 15 to 18 minutes per side. So that will give you a good estimate, or help you guess what you'll need to do for your own cooking situation, if it may take longer or shorter, but it's a good baseline. Now the size of the broiler, we'll take a look at the inside dimension first.

So once you open up, you're gonna have an inside dimension of about three and three quarter inches, so that's from one side to the other. And then for the length of it, let's move this so that, there we go, just like that. So the length of it from the inside is going to be eight and a half inches. Now, if you wanna take it apart, which means you can unscrew the handles to make it a little bit more portable as you store it inside your bag, we'll take some dimensions of that. So from the hinge to right where that handle begins, it's about six inches wide, and then the length, which is gonna be this dimension, from the outside to the outside, it's going to be eight and seven eighth inches.

Notice how this has open slots, so that's gonna be ideal for allowing the grease to escape as you cook your burgers. So these handles are detachable, all you need to do is you just need to rotate these and they have kind of a long thread, so it may take a minute, but once you release them, right over, lets see. Right over here, so the length of the handle itself is going to be about 20 and seven-eighth inches once it is inside your cast iron broiler. And then the overall length of the entire system, let's get our measuring tape right over here, it's going to be 26 and five-eight inches. So it's a normal size broiler, kind of on the longer side, it is nice that these handles are detachable for when you need to store them or carry them in your bag. Now, as you are cooking, notice how we have a wooden handle as well as a steel shaft. So when you are, when you do have this on the fire, hold it by the wooden handle and not that steel shaft. Also, make sure that this clip right over here is securing your broiler, so with that clip engaged this is gonna stay closed as you cook your food over the fire. And when you're ready to take it out, you just unclip it. Again, be careful 'cause this may routine heat, and then get your food, and then once you're done eating, you can then clean it. Again, this is cast iron, so please check out the proper methods of cleaning a cast iron broiler, and then you can store it in your bag. All right, so that's about it for our quick look here at our Coghlan's Camping Broiler. Again, this is the size double, but also comes in a single with just one broiler, kind of for just one patty, or one piece of chicken. You can check it out, if you are a solo traveler, maybe check out the single version, but if you are planning some friends and you wanna make a lot of food, this might be a good option for you. But my name is Evange, and I hope you enjoyed this look at the Coghlan's Camping Broiler..
