Rob: Rob here at etrailer.com. Today you're going to be taking a look at the PTC custom fit charcoal cabin air filter on our 2011 Toyota RAV4. Now, a cabin air filter is going to do for your car what a furnace filter does for your house. It's going to filter all the air from outside before it comes through our vents so we can make sure that we have the best quality air to breath in. A lot of people might not even realize they have a cabin filter in their car. But most newer cars do have them and checking them and changing them regularly is an important thing because if we get too much dirt trapped inside and get it clogged, it'll build up pressure inside of our heating and cooling system which can cause damage down the road.
Not to mention if any larger debris gets through and the filter isn't catching it, that can cause a lot of damage as well.There's no need to pay anybody to change your cabin filter because it is going to be an extremely straight forward easy process, especially on our RAV4. So let's go ahead and change ours together. We're going to start out on the passenger's side. We'll open up our glove box. Now on the very outside edge, we're going to have this shock dampener that prevents the glove box from coming down too fast and too hard.
And this is just going to slide off that post, so we can just push it off like that.Now there's a couple different ways you can do this part. We can either come to the two outer edges and press in to where these stops come down, or we come to the center of the glove box and we're going to push up, and that'll bring those two corner pieces in allowing us to drop the glove box down farther. Now once it gets to about this position, you're going to rotate it down a little bit and we'll just pull it straight out, and set it down so we don't have to worry about it falling.Now if we look inside, we'll find this white rectangular cover and on the right side, we're going to have this little tab. Pull the tab and we're going to pull the whole cover out. That'll give us access to the filter.
Then we'll pull it out.Now one thing I do want to mention with our new filter, if you look at the end here, it'll say air flow with a couple of arrows. That's important because you want to make sure you have the air flow going the right direction. So if we grab the cover, we can see that it has an arrow pointing up with the words up on it, so we want to make sure those arrows are pointing up as well. We slide that in. We'll take our cover, slide it in towards the driver's side, and make sure it locks in on the passenger's side.Putting the glove box on is going to be just as easy.
You're just going to reverse the order. So I'll lock the hinges in place, get the stop tabs back in, and then we'll just slide the shock mount back in place, and we're ready to hit the road. But that'll finish up your look at the PTC custom fit charcoal cabin air filter on our 2011 Toyota RAV4.

I haven't installed the product but it looks identical to the factory installed one. Its a compartment filter for 2019 Sienna. Delivery was on time as promised.

While the Filter seems acceptable, the [online] video etrailer has on-line showing how to DIY install/replace and access the filter is incomplete and a bad source of how to do it. In it, the information on a simple procedure like removing the glove box to get at the filter housing completely neglects to tell an Acadia owner it is necessary to easily disconnect the left-side of the glove box from the swivel restraint which takes two seconds. That earned the one star review and caused me to finally source other, complete and accurate [online] videos on how to do it.
I like it has carbon filter to better screen out outside impurities. It was more stiff than the original cabin filter making it harder to insert.
