Video Transcript for WeatherTech Stone and Bug Shield Deflector Installation - 2016 Chevroelt Silverado 1500

Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Weathertech easy on stone and bug shield deflector, part number WT50266. Here's what our deflector looks like when it's installed. Now this is going to not only protect our hood from flying debris, such as rocks, bugs, or any kind of chips that may happen. But it's also going to give our truck a nice stylish look. Our deflector's going to feature an aerospace grade acrylic construction and it's going to be scratch resistant. Now our deflector's going to feature a smoke tinted color, which is going to compliment most colors of trucks. Our deflector's going to follow the lines on our hood perfectly, giving it that nice, clean OEM look.

Now that we've seen what our bug deflector looks like and we've gone over some of the features, lets show you how easy it is to get it installed.First step of our installation, is we're going to need to open our hood. Now we're going to bring our attention to this rubber seal, that's on the edge. Now it is held in by push pin fasteners underneath and that's actually how our bug deflector is going to mount, using a few of these fasteners. Now you're going to want to grab your bug shield and we're just going to do a quick test fit to see about where we want it to sit. We're going to try to get it as centered on our truck as possible, sliding that bottom lip underneath the hood and the top going over. Now if we lift it back up and we pull it away slightly, we can see the corresponding holes in the bug deflector that line up with the push pins holding that rubber strip on.

I went ahead and grabbed a paint marker and I'm going to actually mark the push pins that corresponds with the holes, making it a little bit easier so I can set this aside when I take those push pins out. Actually just going to take my bug shield and I'm going to set it right here on top of the engine bay. While I go in and take my trim panel tool and I'm going to pop out those push pin fasteners. And you can use a flathead screwdriver or a trim panel tool, whatever you have available. Just something to get underneath those push pins and pop them out.Now the new fasteners they give us in our kit are going to be a combination of a screw and push pin style.

We're going to want to make sure that the screw is all the way out or unscrewed before we put everything in place. You want to grab your bug shield and where we pulled those push pin fasteners out, you're actually going to slide the bottom flange here underneath the rubber in between the rubber and the hood. We're going to do that working our way all the way down until we get our deflector in place. Now if we line up the holes with the rubber strip, our bug deflector and the hood we can take our provided push pin fasteners and we're going to want to push that inner section in first. Then we can come back with a Phillips head screwdriver and you're going to want to apply pressure pushing up while you're tightening it down. Then once you have that one in, you're going to want to follow along and put all the rest of the push pins in place.

With all the fasteners in place, we can go ahead and shut our hood. We have a few more pieces that we're going to have to put on that are going to protect our hood from our bug shield flexing and causing any scratches. Now our kit does come with some hood bumper stops and it's just this little plastic rubbery type of material, that's going to stick to our hood right underneath our bug deflector in case of any kind of flex that it has, so it doesn't touch the hood. We're just going to take our strip and we can peel off one of the little round pads. Now I'm actually just going to place it right underneath my deflector right where my hood is at the closest point. Now they do provide us with four of them, so I'm going to put two on each side. With everything in place, we're ready to hit the road. That'll finish up our look at the Weathertech easy on stone and bug shield deflector, part number WT50266 on our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado.

Looks great, easy to install...however, the fastening clips provided are way too short and wouldn't work on my truck. They couldn't grip once inserted and wouldn't hold the weight of shield when I attempted to insert the screws no matter what I tried to do. I searched my local Napa, a local body shop ,and my mechanic to find a longer clip that would hold, no one had any longer that would fit in the 3/8 inch holes of my hood. Its a brand new truck and I sure as hell wasn't going to try to drill the holes larger. I ended up at a hardware store and bought dry wall hangers that supported 3/4 inch #8 screws that did the job. I know I have a great warranty on this item and it should last as long as I own the truck, but come on Weathertech, let's get some fasteners that work for a Silverado. I know this isn't the first complaint about the crappy fasteners. If they had worked, I would have given it a five star rating.

It's a great bug deflector
Only thing
was I had to get longer plastic snaps to hold it onto the hood
But a year later it's still on and going strong

The bug deflector was a little difficult to install to begin with, but once everything was lined up and in place went on with no problems. Covers everything it needs to in order to protect your vehicle with a petty low profile. Time will tell how well it protects.

I purchased this bug deflector for my Jayco Greyhawk motorhome about a year ago and it has held up beautifully. I am sure that without it I would have chips and issues on the motorhome after putting 15k miles on it. Thanks e-trailer for quick shipments and great support.

I ordered a bug deflector specific for my truck but this one seemed to be a generic for GM trucks. the tabs did not fit properly for the underside of my hood. The double sided tape did not match properly to the underside of the hood and the tape was not sticky enough to adhere to the metal. The outboard retainer clips were not the proper style to clip to my hood and stay in place. Road vibaration causes the clips to disengage each time I drive the vehicle

by:

It fit fine. Only issue was with the first hole on the drivers side. It was either thin or drilled a bit larger as the screw for it would not bite and hold. I used a clip I had on hand for this and it worked fine.

by:

I really like it. Easy to install and very sleek looking
I need to order another one because I hit a deer and my hood is getting replaced, so I will be getting another one

by:

Really great product and a perfect hood protector from road rocks and bugs.

I have purchased and used WeatherTech products in the past, always had good quality and concise installation instructions. I recently added the Stone and Bug deflector on my 2019 Colorado, it looks great. Having a new windshield installed because of a stone crack, hope to avoid these in the future.

by:

Looks good. After installed. Just wish I didn't have to drill one hole as directed into the metal. Drivers side tip appears to be higher than the passenger side

by:

Install went ok, some of the red plastic you pull off the adhesive broke off and would not come off. Hope it will not effect long term performance of bug shield.

by:

Easy installation, arrived fast and great price!

by:

I had to clean my windshield recently from a few bugs. It was then I noticed that the bug deflector was almost completely covered with insect impacts so I guess it was doing it's job

by:

Weather Tech Easy-on bug guard has worked great since installed a year ago. UV damage has not occurred. Holds up extremely well to driving usage.

by:

It is a quality product, but I would not say it is an easy install. After removing the necessary fasteners, it was tricky getting the tabs lined up between the rubber lip and hood. I don’t think I could have accomplished this without my wife’s help. Secondly, some of six included replacement fasteners were extremely difficult to install.

Weathertech only included the six required fasteners with no spares. I bent the tips of the two most outboard fasteners trying to get them aligned with the existing holes (hard to see when peering through the rubber and shield), so those two are not properly anchored at the moment.

I contacted Weathertech; they are sending me replacements free of charge. Weathertech should consider including a few extras in the kit.

The install, which after viewing etrailer’s excellent video, should have taken 30 minutes or less, but because of those fastener issues, took me about 1.5 hours.

by:

Product was perfect. Box was in horrible shape when arrived (likely shipping company's fault) but product was still good and fit perfectly.

by:

This bug shield was easy to install. The installation instructions were clear and easy to understand. This bug shield has met all my expectations after two summers of Arizona heat & over 10,000 miles.

by:

I’ve owned six chevy trucks. My current trusted steed is a 2008, silverado 2500HD, ext cab, long box. I bought it new and now have 339,000 miles on her. I added this bug shield to offer more protection and grace. It worked! Love it.

by:

Great quality, good fit overall…BUT, once again WeatherTech is “cheaping out” on their fasteners! Those ridiculous plastic push pin type fasteners DO NOT inspire confidence at all…the etrailer installation video acknowledged this. Come on WeatherTech…these things are IMPORTANT!!

by:

Had this bug deflector for a year now. Very happy with it. Easy to install yourself using existing parts on the stock truck. Better than the adhesive only on other brands. Solid and looks great.
