A variety of things can make your vehicle veer - crosswinds, uneven pavement, tire blowout. The key to a pleasant, and safe, driving experience is learning how to deal with these situations. Roadmaster's Reflex Steering Stabilizer works to return your vehicle to center when something happens that causes it to swerve or jolt. As a result, you won't have to oversteer in an attempt to stay in line, thus minimizing road fatigue.


The stabilizer attaches to your vehicle's tie rod on one end and to the frame on the other. A heavy-duty steel spring runs the length of the rod, constantly working to keep steering controlled. If you steer your vehicle one way and it gets pulled the opposite way, the spring will stretch momentarily and then quickly pull back to its normal state. If you oversteer your vehicle in the same direction it is already moving, the spring will compress for a moment but then push back out to its prior state. No matter how you steer or how the frame is pushed or pulled, your vehicle will always return to center.

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here from Etrailer and today, I'm with Jeff from Roadmaster. And today, we're taking a look at what you can do to your coach to enhance the suspension. So a lot of coaches out there, real top heavy feeling and people think, "Well, it is what it is. It's a big bus, you know, how do I improve this" But that's not necessarily the case. Roadmaster has a few different options to help make a better ride, overall. Definitely, it definitely does.

So typically, we educate our customer to let 'em know that yes, you can improve your ride or you can get that GT version suspension with your motor home. And how we do is we basically have to find out what's the root of the problem, okay. So typically, when a customer comes up to us, the very first thing they say is, "Hey, I'm constantly doing this when I'm going down the road." That that just means so many different things. So we actually ask a few more questions. "Hey, do you tow a vehicle behind your motor home Does it get worse when you put that motor home behind, or that vehicle behind the motor home And when it does, is this getting worse as well" And when the answer is yes, yes and yes, then we kind of know that the issue is tail wag at that point.

And that's usually fixed by a product called a track bar. And what it does, it just locks the rear axle in place. So it's not moving side-to-side. It's only moving straight up and down like it should, okay Or the next thing that I typically ask my customers is, is "Whenever you go in and out of turns, does it feel like the coach wants to roll over to its side" Most of the time, the answer is yes. And typically, the reason why is because when that coach or when the chassis was manufactured, they really had no Earthly idea what the final output was gonna be, how tall it was, how much weight was gonna be on it.

So you actually took center of gravity from probably a foot and a half, to a foot off the ground and all of a sudden, you're six feet off the ground or eight feet off the ground. We're putting air conditioners, solar panels, satellite dishes, everything else on top of these things. And we just need to drastically improve that. So how we do that in this case, is we upgrade the sway bars. In some cases, we're doing a remove and replace.

In other cases, we're actually piggybacking, adding a second sway bar to the rear or to the front of the coach. So sway bars are something predominantly, you see on passenger vehicles. And when I started working here, putting a sway bar on an RV, I go, "Well, I mean it's the same concept, why not" But seeing the difference, I've done sway bars on my own personal vehicle and the first turn you take, you go, "Oh, that's a lot better." Definitely. It's no different on an RV, in fact, it might even be. Jeff Much more noticeable. Yeah, absolutely, 'cause. Or before driving, it does feel like it's gonna topple over and you don't necessarily get sports car handling, but it's more response on the steering, it's more direct and you just feel a little bit more planted, more, honestly, confidence when driving. Yeah, and a lot of our customers are reporting back up, you know, they're saying up to a 60% increase in how they feel that their coaches is handling. And that's what we really like to hear and that's where we're trying to aim for. We wanna give that customer their vacation the minute they start out of the driveway and not once they get to their destination. Yeah, and so as far as sway bars, there's rear sway bars as well as front sway bars, correct Correct. So why would someone choose one or the other or should they go with both Typically, we suggest both. In some cases, yes, you can start off with the rear, but like I said, again, we like to suggest both because we're actually tuning the bars for the weight of that vehicle that it's gonna carry. So to have an upgraded bar in the rear and not one on the front, kind of does it a little bit of injustice. That's fair. Now something else too, as a long drive that's gonna wear you out is, is fighting the steering wheel back and forth and you guys have a way to fix that, correct Absolutely, we sure do. So once we turn and look at all the issues that the customer has, we determine what the issues are, we start talking to the customer and we resolve 'em by doing track bars, sway bars, the last and final thing that we usually recommend is a steering control. So basically, what the steering control does and essentially, is put center force pressure on a tie rod. So that way we're trying to hold that vehicle in a straight line. So if the customer has road ruts, if they turn around and hit potholes in the road, high winds, it's an assistance for that customer to keep in a straight line on their coach. Yeah, and that's, again, one of the installs, many of the installs that I've done is the steering stabilizer. And again, that's one of those, "Does it really make that big of a difference" Well, just going through our parking lot and cutting it, you let go of the steering wheel and it kind of still just tracks that way, whereas the steering stabilizer, you can see the steering wheel go back to center and then, when you're just going down a straight line, it just feels like it's in a nice natural groove. Jeff Yeah, sure does. So it's definitely a lot more comfortable, especially, you know, putting a lot of hours on the road or doing any twisty-turvy, you know, curvy roads out there, it's just gonna help balance it and kind of counter steer a little bit for you, bringing it back to center. That way, you're not having to fight that wheel back and forth. Now with both of, you know, our front sway bar, rear sway bar as well as the steering stabilizer, that's gonna get you a really good ride. And I think overall, better drivability, these also still work in conjunction with other suspension enhancements that you can add on as well, so you can really deck out the suspension of your RV. And I think it's. You'll be a believer once you start doing these, you're just gonna enjoy driving it more, I believe. Exactly, it brings the vacation back and the fun back into RV-ing. Yep, absolutely. Well, this was a look at some of the Roadmaster suspension components to just get your coach going down the road a little bit safer and a little bit more comfortable. Can't tell you how much it worked or didn't work. Never found out. Ordered and received the bracket and hardware. 6 months later, no Stabilizer as promised. Finally, I returned all hardware and bracket and Etrailer gave me a full refund. What a waste of time. Not interested in wasting my valuable time on a reorder.

First, I did have to grind off corner of the plate that mounts under leaf spring bolts. It would not lay flush so I tapered one of the edges where it met the axel a little bit till it laid flush. I did buy a 3/4 inch wrench set but with an rv, it's good to have and will possible allow me to get the 22.5 inch wheels off in an emergency. This with a good solid 3' pipe and I was able to fairly easily break the leaf spring bolts free. I used boards to ensure the fronts tires were fairly straight, laying them alongside the tires and eyeballing to see where they lined up with the back tires which are about 4 inches wider than the front outside width. I mounted the steering stabilizer and took it for a test drive and it was good the first time, no additional adjustments needed. Feels good on the road, good around turns, and even at low speeds around the driveway, I did not notice any extra effort to turn the wheel due to the heavy spring on the stabalizer. Put about 75 miles on it and it feels solid and stable though no high winds or passing semi trucks yet. But my 2007 ford f53 22000 lb chassis under a holiday rambler admiral body has always felt pretty good. Just trying to make better, next up is the new koni evo fsd heavy duty shocks coming today.

What a difference this made. I was on the fence about this for quite a while because of the investment needed. Now that’s it’s on my 2018 Coachman Freelander 28QB sitting on a Ford E450 my only advice is don’t wait any longer, put this on as soon as possible! It took all of that steering wheel shake out. No need to hang on with a death grip anymore. The stabilizer is very easy to put on, it took me about 1 ½ hours to complete including taking the old one off. Just follow the great video and printed instructions from etrailer and you will have no problems at all.

Works great on my 1989 E350 Holiday Rambler Imperial class-C motorhome. Holes had to be drilled in the frame or else the angle would be too extreme and would likely bend the tie rod. I would probably like a little more tension on the steering wheel than it currently has but perhaps that can be adjusted? Just drove a few hundred miles through LA traffic in CA and it definitely helped reduce some stress.

Installing the steering stabilizer really made a difference. You have to be careful to have your front wheels as straight as possible. I had to make an adjustment after install as it made my motorhome pull to the right. The Ford dealer quickly made the adjustment and it really tracks straight down the highway now. It tightened up my steering as well - I'm very pleased with this product.

Bought this for my 2022 Thor Hurricane 22K chassis, it seems as the stroke is too short to be able to turn wheels to the stops. So you don’t get into tight spots very easily with out backing up and repositioning yourself to move forward. Also tightened down the tie rod clamps to spec and the end slid on the tie rod just while trying to make a turn into a parking spot. Later had to get underneath and reposition and find center again. Wish I would have spent the money and got something else. Had a safer plus on previous motor home with no problems

Easy installation took me less than 40 minutes from start to finish. Test drive was a “remarkable” difference than before.

I installed this on my 2003 Chevy Express 3500 Roadtrek Class B motorhome to help with steering wander. It improved the issue by about 75%. A noticeable improvement. The instructions were a little difficult to follow, but with some tech support help, I was able to remedy the issue by reversing the position of the small end bracket (see pic) that attaches to the steering center link. This is basically a shock absorber (dampener with spring) mounted horizontally on the steering Linkage. It worked well.

Well there's good and less good.
The
less good is 1yr ago you knew the part # this year you didn't and I had to call mfg to verify. The good is you were pleasant to work with. Shipped the same day and sent me tracking information. Warranty work on my past purchase (Air Force One) braking system problem was not resolved.

To start off, the folks at etrailer were the most professional and helpful. I cannot remember a company I have dealt with in the past that offers such help in determining the correct product and answering my many questions.

The installation of the RBK22 bracket was flawless. I was very concerned because of the size of my Newmar Country Star 3911 motor home (26,000 GVRW). The U bolt nuts came off without a lot of strain, since I went out an purchased a 3/4" breaker bar. We installed the mounting bracket and re torqued the U bolt nuts to the factory 250 ft. lbs of torque.

Installing the RSSA went smooth as well. Check out the pictures below. We then took the motor home out on the freeway and drove it between 65 - 70 mph. Steering was wonderful! Before, I could only drive 55 mph and had to constantly fight with the steering wheel to keep the motor home straight.

We have driven about 3,400 miles since the Roadmaster Reflex Steering Stabilizer install. I can honestly say it has made a significant difference in the handling of our Class C RV. Before installing the Stabilizer the RV steering felt like it wanted to drift one way or the other depending on road conditions. This is no longer the case. Much less work to steer.

Works well, install was a little tough as the video showed mounting bracket instructions different then the bracket I installed . I had to remove the spring u bolt nuts. That was not an easy task. Had to use a breaker bar and my legs to remove them. Install was easy and took about 20 minutes. Steering feels good.Happy with etrailer and the product.

Installed the roadmaster stabilizer on my 2017 F450 Fleetwood Jamboree and just got back from the test drive. Got the positioning just right on the first try. This with my sumo springs have completely transformed my ride.

We had this installed by Camping World on our 2019 Thor 26HE. It was a handful on the interstate when a semi passed.

Now there is just a small push-pull when they pass with the steering stabilizer.

I recommend this to everyone who buys a C Class RV.

I was able to assemble the Reflex Steering Stabilizer by driving up onto 2 X 12 boards, and using my creeper, and an impact gun
. It took about an hour to assemble.

Before installing this stabilizer on our coach you wanted to keep both hands on the wheel due to the drifting around in the lane. After we had it installed, there is no longer a need to use both hands to control the coach and maintain a straight path in our lane.
