Rob: How's it going, everybody Rob here at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the PTC Custom Fit Engine Air Filter on our 2017 Toyota Highlander. Now, typically an engine air filter is one of the last things on our mind. A lot of times we'll either have a reminder on the dash to change the oil, put fuel in our car, all of those things, but a lot of people don't think about their air filters.Well, if we don't change or at least check our air filter periodically, it's going to end up getting clogged up. Obviously, it's going to get dirty because it's filtering all that dirt and debris out before it goes into the engine. Well, if the filter gets clogged or restricted of airflow, we're robbing the engine of the performance and the fuel economy that we want.
Because let's face it, if we can get as much mileage out of our Highlander as we can, that's what we want.So making sure that your air filter is clean and properly flowing is going to be pretty important. So you do want to double-check your air filter. You can check your owner's manual for a specific time, but usually about every other oil change or maybe every third oil change would be a good time to check it at least. That's another thing.A lot of times we do get offered to have the filter replaced, especially at the service center while we're getting an oil change. And while it is pretty convenient and it's easy, we're already there, there's no reason to pay somebody to actually change the filter, especially on our Highlander.
It's extremely easy to get to. It only takes a few seconds to check it.So since we have our new one here, let's go ahead and set it aside and we can check the one that's in there and replace it if it is dirty. So we want open up the hood and we're going to come to the driver's side, pretty close to the firewall. We'll find our battery. We'll find our airbox directly behind our battery here.
And there's just going to be a couple clips. Just pull this one in the back towards the front, open them up. Then, I'm going to grab the driver's side of the airbox, kind of lift it up. There's a few tabs on the passenger side, got to get it out of the box.Let me just grab the filter and pull it out. Now you can already tell just looking at it, it's pretty dirty.
And you see how it's changing colors. And if we open it up, you can see there actually is pretty large pieces of debris in there. So it's a good thing we're checking it. It's a good thing that the filter is in there so those large pieces don't get into the engine causing potential damage later on down the road. I'm putting the new filter in. It's just going to be the exact opposite.We'll just lift up the lid, line the filter up, make sure it drops in place. And these little tabs just need to go back into those slots. I'm going to just clip the clips back in place. So again, that's really easy, very quick, didn't even require any kind of tools at all. So definitely something you can do at home, save yourself a few dollars. But again, I'm Rob here at etrailer.com. This is the correct filter for my vehicle - exactly what I ordered. Delivery took so long that I started to doubt that the order had gone through. I got tired of waiting and bought one locally and installed it. I’ll use this one in the future so it all worked out.
My package arrived in ok condition! Way to much much room to be shaken and be destroyed. Luckily mine arrived ok. Some of the original packaging was dented and deformed do to over sized box! I got lucky!

I clearly identified my vehicle as a 2000 Mercedes Benz E320. The air filters (3) which you sent me are the right width, but are an inch too long, and are therefore unusable. They cannot be made to fit in the air cleaner compartment. Not acceptable.
