Adding a second outlet farther upstream in a single exhaust system offers a "quick escape" for exhaust gases, thereby producing gains in horsepower and torque. Anti-noise regulations limit use of this cutout to racetracks only.
Features:
Specs:
This exhaust cutout gives your engine a competitive edge at the racetrack. The cutout provides a second outlet that stems from the original, single exhaust system to expel gases earlier than they would traveling the standard length of the exhaust system. When exhaust exits quickly, engine performance becomes more efficient, increasing horsepower and torque. This cutout can replace any pipe of the same length in your exhaust system. Depending on where you install the cutout, cutting may be required to remove the original pipe from the system. Clamps are included for installation.

Today in this 1998 Pontiac Firebird, were going to install part number MF10784 from Magnaflow. First thing were going to do is take our cutout for the exhaust and hold it in the spot were going to install it. Its hard to see but you can see how the pipe expands to accommodate the exhaust pipe on the vehicle. Now were actually going to make our cuts. Were going to mark it on the existing pipe and go past an edge about 1/4 inch to 3/8 of an inch. That way it will give us some working room to go left and right.
Were going to use a chain cutting tool to make our cut through the exhaust pipe. With our section cut out of the pipe, well go ahead and take the part that goes up to the header and well get it out of our way as well. Well take that part and our cutout and well take it to the bench and piece it together. Well loosely install our clamps. Now it would be a good idea to hold it up there a couple times to make sure the clamps are going to be sitting the way you want them.
Once youre satisfied with the set up, well go ahead and bolt it back into place. Well slide the cutout onto the rest of the exhaust and then reconnect it to the header. Well rotate it around in a position that we like and then well go ahead and tighten it down for good and then go ahead and tighten down the clamps and the rest of the hardware. Now that were done with our passengers side, well repeat the same process over on our drivers side. With that, that will finish it for our install of part number MF10784 from Magnaflow, on our 1998 Pontiac Firebird..

These cut outs are a lot of fun and did give me additional horsepower. I picked up a mph at the drag strip when I have these open versus closed so I'd say its a solid 10 horsepower and I have an already very non-restrictive exhaust system. The car has ported heads and a mild cam so when they are open its VERY LOUD. My neighbors hate me. Its just a tiny bit quieter than running open headers.
So far they've been on the car for two winters and the hardware is not showing any real signs of rust either so the stainless steel is doing its job. One thing I did that helped was I had the install bolts welded to the flanges so that to open the cut outs I do not need to use a wrench. Just loosen the wing nuts and pull the flaps off the studs. Takes about 4 minutes to open or close both cutouts since I have 2 of these. One welded behind both headers in the Y-pipe.
