Installation of Hayes Brake Controller Adapter
To install your Hayes electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, in which the wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. You will find these wires beneath your dash.
With this adapter, you can install your Hayes brake controller without having to wire the controller directly to your vehicle. Just butt-connect the pigtail end of the adapter to your vehicle's factory brake control harness wiring, and then plug the other end of the adapter into the controller. Because only the adapter is hardwired to your vehicle, you can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it away.

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number HA81789-HBC-GM. This is the custom wiring adapter for Hayes trailer brake controllers. This is designed for late-model GM trucks that do not come equipped with brake control wiring harness ports. This adapter is going to plug in to your Hayes electric trailer brake controller at one end and then butt connects to your vehicle's wiring at the other end. The wiring adapter connects to your vehicle to provide a plug for your electric trailer brake controller. Makes it really simple to plug and unplug the controller for use in a different vehicle or when you're ready to move it storage when you're not towing. The pigtail end is going to crimp to your vehicle's wiring with butt connectors, and then the plug end is going to connect to the back of your electric brake controller.
This is going to be compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from Hayes. Now the wire length is going to measure 24 inches. The wires have a really nice protective casing to keep them from any damage. When installing this, you want to refer to the brake controller's installation instructions to make sure that the wires are being connected correctly.
