Ellen: Hey everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be taking a look at the replacement side plates for your Demco Hijacker UMS Fifth Wheel Hitch. So, these are going to be a direct replacement for any kind of messed up or damaged side plates for your fifth wheel hitch or maybe you already have the Hijacker head and center assembly, but you just want to get this new package to work with your newer truck. This particular leg kit works with the 2020 and newer GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado prep package, that's for the 2,500 and the 3,500 for the short and long beds. So, this allows you to drop your fifth wheel hitch into your truck bed, and then take it back out whenever you don't need it, so that way you're not having to worry about working around those above bed rails that can take up a lot of space and make things kind of tricky to push into your truck. So, now you have unfettered access to that truck bed whenever you're not using your fifth wheel hitch, so that's kind of the main benefit of using that prep package. Let's take a little closer look at the side rails, or the side plates themselves.
You can see it's going to be a nice powder-coated sturdy steel construction. So, it should resist most rust and corrosion. To get these in place there's going to be a little cotter pin down here at the bottom. So pull that, and I just have everything kind of loosely assembled, so whenever you have this on your vehicle, it's going to be tighter than this. Once you pull that cotter pin, you can pull that pin out and then open up the lever.
That's what allows you to drop that in, so you can make some adjustments to the fit on that, make sure it's nice and tight. That kind of gives you a way to make sure that it drops in easily. So, when you first get this, you'll want to adjust that so you can drop it in, take it out, pretty easy. Probably easiest to do that with the side plates assembled by themselves without the rest of the assembly on there, once everything's put together, it is heavy, so just keep that in mind. But that is something that's kind of nice is that it comes in three parts, so there's the side plates, that center beam that the head rests on, and then the head assembly itself. This is made in the USA and should be a great option for you. Again, it works with the Demco Hijacker, that's going to have a 21,000 pound capacity.
Of course, you want to make sure you check your owner's manual in your GMC or your Chevy, make sure that you're not exceeding its recommended weight limits. You're only really as strong as your weakest link, so that's something to keep in mind there. That's pretty much all there is to it for our look at the Demco Hijacker Side Plates. I hope this video has been helpful. Again, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com.
Thanks for watching.
