The Reese Universal Fifth Wheel Install Kit, part # RP30035 is indeed compatible with your 2012 Silverado 2500HD short bed. The industry-standard rails provided by the install kit will work just fine with your Reese Trail Boss sliding fifth wheel hitch. I've linked the installation instructions for you. The instructions that pertain to your truck begin on page 4 of the instructions.
Reese also offers a # RP50066-58 Custom Fifth Wheel Hitch Install Kit that would take half the install time (about 3 hours versus 6 hours for the universal kit). You can see an install video for this kit by clicking the provided link.
If your truck doesn't currently have a 7-way trailer connector installed in the bed, you can install one using part # 41157. You can see an install video for the wiring by clicking the link I provided for you.
