Will Strap Work With The Winch Installed On Boat Trailer

Question:

I ordered this strap for my boat as it was recommended by one of your staff. I have attached a picture of my setup on the trailer as is. I rewired the trailer on Sunday with the 4 pole wishbone wiring and put two new lights on it all ordered through your company. At the bottom of the winch I see the bolt where strap loop would go through. The issue is where the spool is where strap would go around there is a hole there and my grandfather said he used rope to go through there and then back on boat you can see there is a white loop where this rope he used to use tied to and then on one side of winch where worn tire is there is a place to lock it down so it wouldnt roll back as he explained. Any advice or clarification would be appreciated. Not sure if I should return this and just get rope or what to do. Thanks,

You are correct. The winch you have on your trailer looks as though it is designed for a rope or cable, and not a strap. The winches we offer that use a strap use a bolt that goes through the sides of the drum and hold the strap in place when the winch is used.

If you wish to use a strap, then I recommend or part # DL15440, that has a weight capacity of 3,200 lbs. This winch uses a strap much like the strap you purchased.

If you do not wish to use a winch that uses a strap, I recommend using a poly rope or a cable that has the strength and weight capacity for your boat.
