Is Dutton-Lainson DL2500AB Pulling Winch Part # DL14830 Correct Size Winch for 3020-lb Boat

Question:

I have just purchased a Dutton Laison boat winch model DL2500AB 2-speed Winch, plated. This was the size of winch I was advised for our boat / trailer combination. Our boat weighs 1370kgs or 3020lbs is on a bunked trailer with centre rollers. Boat is launched off various slipways of differing angles. I am not sure if I have the right winch for the boat weight, can you help?

The Dutton-Lainson DL2500AB Pulling Winch, part # DL14830, has a rated horizontal pulling capacity of 2500 pounds. It is not rated adequately to pull your 3020-lb boat onto its bunked trailer.

We offer the 3200-lb-rated Dutton-Lainson model DL3200A, part # DL15440. This 2-speed winch features high-carbon-steel gears and permanently-lubricated bearings. The handle is included. I have linked a product review video for this item. Please note that you will need to use three grade 5 or grade 8 nuts, bolts and lock washers to mount the winch. You will also need a strap rated for 1-1/2 times the winch capacity, such as the 20-foot Dutton-Lainson Extra Heavy Duty Hand Winch Strap with Safety Hook, part # DL24251.

I have forwarded in a separate email the installation instructions/user manual from Dutton-Lainson (which covers both models DL2500A and DL3200A winches).

I have included a link to an article on winches that may be helpful to you.
