Reverse Light, Battery Charger Recommendations for Utility Trailer

Question:

Im in the process of renovation my utility trailer. I will be converting all lights to LED I already have the tails and markers. Im also wanting to add an LED reverse light and potentially a deep cycle battery in the tool box to power 12v accessories while we travel and also power an accessory light of some sort for when using in the dark. It is currently a 4 wire trailer. I tow it with a 2011 Chevy Traverse, what will I need to accomplish my goals?

To add two reverse lights, one on each side of the rear of the utility trailer, I recommend the Sealed, 6-1/2 inch LED Clear Oval Trailer Utility Light, 10 Diode, # BUL72CB. You will also need a rubber grommet, # a70gb, for each light, and a pigtail, # A45CB, for each light. To mount the lights, you can use Mounting Bracket # BK70BB.

You would then need to wire the lights to come on with the tow vehicle reverse lights. You would need to convert the tow vehicle and trailer from 4-Way to 5-Way wiring using the Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Kit - Vehicle and Trailer Ends, # HM47890. The extra blue wire would be for the reverse lights.

We do not have deep cycle batteries, but we do have battery chargers for deep cycle batteries.

To charge a battery while using the lights in the trailer you will want a charger that has a supply mode. The CTEK MULTI US 7002 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger with Pulse Maintenance and Backup Power, # CTEK56353, has the supply mode and will supply full power to the battery and keep it charged when using the lighting in the trailer on a regular basis. Check out the demonstration video of this part that I have included.

The battery should be mounted outside of the trailer for safe operation and charging. The use of a vented battery box like the Battery Box Vented - Marine 24, # DW03009, (check size of your battery) mounted to the outside of the trailer is recommended. These boxes are usually mounted on the A-frame tongue of the trailer.

For an interior LED light I recommend # ILL22CB. I have included a video which shows how to hook up the light by tying it into the running light circuit of the trailer.
