If your 1997 Pathfinder has crossbars on the roof (that run left-to-right) you can confirm the fit of the Curt Roof Mounted Cargo Basket # C18115 on your 1997 Nissan Pathfinder XE by taking a few quick measurements. First, check the size of the cross bars themselves; to fit the Curt basket they cannot exceed 3-inches in width or 1-5/8-inches in height. Second, check the spread of the crossbars front to back; when you measure from the center of the front bar to the center of the rear bar, if the distance is 15-, 22-, or 29-inches then the Curt basket # C18115 will fit.

If your Pathfinder has no left-to-right crossbars then you will need to install a roof rack to allow use of a metal cargo basket like the Curt. The link at right will let you see all rack options which can be sorted by selecting at the top of the page the type of roof on your vehicle. You will then see compatible racks. I will be glad to offer a recommendation for a rack and cargo basket if you wish to advise the type of roof on your truck and what sort of items you need to transport.
