How to Identify Presence of Tow Package on 2012 Honda Pilot EX-L
Question:
Im trying to figure out which harness I need to set up a 4 or 7 pin trailer attachment on my 2012 honda pilot ex-l. How can I tell if it has a factory package? Should there be a plug in beside the hitch? There is a wire with some kind of multi-pin receptacle tucked under the bumper. Thanks!

The best way to confirm whether a given vehicle has a factory tow package present is to check with a local dealership using your vehicle's VIN number. The dealer should be able to easily look this up. Also, please note that what physical attributes actually constitute a 'tow package' can vary between auto makers and vehicle models.
We offer a 4-pole harness for the 2012 Honda Pilot without tow package, part # 118558, which includes relays and a flat 4-pole connector. This kit installs without need for cutting or splicing the vehicle's wires. If you do have the factory tow package we offer kit # 118265 which also includes harnesses and relays, but that provides a 7-way socket rather than a 4-pole. This is also a plug-in no-splice installation.
Since you have found a connector tucked under the bumper you can take a close look at its shape and size and compare it to the two wiring kits. I have linked the instructions for both kits for your reference.
The part you looked at, T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118491, is not a fit for the 2012 model year.
