Difficulty of Installing a Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Audi A3
Question:
I installed hidden hitch on our 2013 Volvo XC90 - that took me 2-3 hours. Trying to determine if I shoud DIY install C11192 on my 2012 Audi A3. Obviously there are more steps involved, but it is significantly more complicated technically? I dont mind giving this 4-5 hours of my time with a helper. Only tool I need to buy is torque wrench and magnetic pickup tool.

Installation of Curt trailer hitch # C11192 on your 2012 Audi A3 requires some drilling, bumper removal, fascia trimming, and removal of spare tire and tail lights. None of this is all that difficult, it just takes time. To determine if this is something you want to tackle you can take a look at the video I have linked showing an installation. I have also linked the instructions for you.
You might not need to buy a torque wrench. Most auto parts stores will loan out tools.
If you plan on towing with the A3 first consult the owners manual for the vehicle capacity. For a ball mount use # C45520. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # C40001 and for a 2 inch ball use # C40018. And for trailer wiring use # 119250KIT.
