Question:
I have a 2001 ford expedition 4.6L and need to makle it a 7 pin plug. it has all the correct wires running into a rectangle gray plug then another plug to a 4 pin connection.is there a connection that would plug into the factory harness to the 7 pin connector? I have a pic of the connection if needed.

If your 2001 Ford Expedition has a rectangular plug like the one shown in the linked photo then it is likely that the vehicle was factory wired for a 4-pole connector. In order to convert to a 7-way you'll first need to have a 4-pole on the vehicle. You can use Curt part # C55250. To this you can then add adapter part # 37185 from Hopkins, which is a 7-way that plugs into the 4-pole. It includes a mounting bracket.
Once installed the Hopkins adapter will carry lighting signals for your trailer. If you need to make additional connections for 12V trailer power, electric trailer brakes or a reverse light you can use the additional leads on the adapter. Please refer to the linked video for an example of an installation of this part.
The linked article will also show you OEM replacement adapters such as # 118242. This kit includes fuses, relays, the harness and 7-way to plug in under your vehicle. An installation video is linked.
