Can Roof Mounted Cargo Box Attach to Factory Crossbars on 2007 GMC Yukon

Question:

I own a 2007 GMC Yukon Denali with factory roof rails/cross bars. Can I mount a rooftop cargo box directly to the factory rails, or must I purchase a new set of towers/rails to accomodate a box. Thanks.

You can certainly attach a roof mounted cargo box directly to the factory crossbars of your 2007 Yukon. Due relatively large roof of your Yukon, you should be able to fit a pretty large cargo box up there. When choosing a box, pay careful attention to the crossbar spread the box is compatible with, and make sure it's compatible with the bar spread (center to center distance between front and rear crossbar) of your vehicle.

Your owner's manual or a sticker placed on the roof rack itself should list its capacity. You'll want to make sure that the weight of the box you choose plus what ever is placed in it doesn't exceed the roof rack's capacity.

The Thule Pulse L, for instance, part # TH615 will fit crossbars with a minimum spread of of 23-5/8 inches. To determine if this particular box will allow your liftgate to open fully, you can take a measurement on your roof. If the front crossbar is adjustable, move it as far forward as possible. Measure from the center of the bar rearward to the seam where the liftgate and the roof meet. If this distance is more than 46-3/8 inches, the box will fit fine. If there was a particular box you were interested in, just let me know and I'll tell you how to measure to see if it'll fit.

To make accessing your roof mounted cargo safer and easier, I'd recommend a tire step like part # HE4040.
