Why is Grounding Wire Separate on Curt Wiring Harness #C56040 but not on T-One #118467

Question:

I took the trailer wiring out of my Subaru outback before selling it Purchased from u in 2012. I am using it now on a XV Crosstrek. Watching the install video for C56040 wiring it shows a ground wire. The wiring I have does not or never did the extra groundwire. Should I be concerned? Thanks for any help.

After speaking with my contact at Curt, he said that they felt that the ground used for the vehicle's taillights may not be sufficient on the newer vehicle's and could cause the Wiring Harness, # C56040, to not function properly. In an effort to avoid this problem, they separated the grounding wire from the plug in connector and it should be attached to a clean metal surface on the body of the vehicle.

You should not have any problems when using the T-One Wiring Harness, # 118467, on your XV Crosstrek. It is just one manufacturer choosing to do things a little different than the other.
