Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control For 3 Inch Hitch & 10,500 lb Trailer

Question:

Hello. I have a 2021 F350 SRW Diesel with the 3 hitch opening. I have a 30 enclosed car trailer I tow occasionally. About 10,500 gross trailer weight if Im max loaded. Im looking for some sort of anti sway setup. I cant justify something expensive like Pro-pride since Im only towing this trailer a couple times per year. What product suggestions do you have? Thank you

Hi Steve,

I totally understand, as those Pro Pride hitches are great but reaaaaaaaal expensive. So we can get you weight distribution, but due to the size your hitch and weight of your trailer, there will be a cost because there are few options and it's going to take multiple parts. What you'll need to do is get a weight distribution hitch and change out its shank, so let's go ahead and start with the weight distribution that is rated correctly for your 10,500 lb trailer:

- Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW1500

The # BXW1500 is for total tongue weights between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs, which your trailer will have, and it gives you excellent built-in sway control with tension at both its head assembly and spring bars. So it'll give you exactly what you're looking for in that regard.

Now, what you'll have to do since you have a 3 inch hitch, is get a BulletProof hitches ball mount and weight distribution shank adapter. Keep in mind you'll pick the right ball mount based on the rise/drop you need, and the adapter will work with any of them:

- Weight Distribution Shank for BulletProof Hitches Adjustable Ball Mount # 358WEIGHTDIST

- Max 5-1/4" Drop, 4-1/4" Rise: BulletProof Hitches 2-Ball Mount for 3" Hitch # HD304
OR
- Max 7-1/4" Drop, 6-1/4" Rise: BulletProof Hitches 2-Ball Mount for 3" Hitch # HD306
OR
- Max 9-1/4" Drop, 8-1/4" Rise: BulletProof Hitches 2-Ball Mount for 3" Hitch # HD308

Then to secure the ball mount/shank to your hitch use InfiniteRule Hitch Lock for 3" Hitches # 34061074-D.

Reading about the sway hitch, would the 1500 model be too rigid if the trailer isn’t loaded heavy? The empty weight of the trailer is 4-4,300 lbs. Can the tension be adjusted when the trailer is empty? Thank you

@Steve Yes it would be pretty rigid, but you can adjust the number of chain links on the SwayPro.

Kyle, OK thanks for the information. Good news is that I already have the BP hitch now so I’ll just need the shank adapter and not the whole BP hitch. ???? Thanks Steve

@Steve That's great news and yes, you're 100 percent correct. If you already have a BulletProof adjustable ball mount you don't need another one, just the Adapter # 358WEIGHTDIST.
