Will Motorcycle Carrier Reduce Hitch Tongue Weight Capacity on 2022 Subaru Outback XT

Question:

I have a curt hitch on my 22 subaru outback xt. Its model C67JR with a tongue rating of 350 lbs. I intend to use an old haulmaster motorcycle carrier with it thats rated for 400 lbs. Someone suggested very adamantly that the tongue rating should be reduced by 30 to 50 when using a bike hauler. Its 18 from the pin to the center of the bike. Bike weights only about 250 lbs. So at 30 Id be at the theoretical limit and 50 I would be way over. Seeking advice. Thanks, Tom

Unless it says it does in the Haul-Master manual (which is highly unlikely) I wouldn't expect the motorcycle carrier to reduce your capacity. This is something that happens when you use an adapter, not when you use an accessory like a motorcycle carrier, bike carrier, or cargo carrier. Neither of our carriers # e56UR or # e98873 reduce the capacity of the hitch. Basically, as long as it has a solid shank and doesn't use an adapter this isn't something you should be worried about.
