Finding Stoplight Circuit on 2018 Mazda CX-9 for Brake Controller Install

Question:

Hi! I am going to install a trailer brake controller Tekonsha 39510 on a 2018 Mazda CX-9 using a plug in harness 20127. Are you able to help me find a wire to splice into for the ‘Stop’/Red: cold side of stoplight switch? I don’t want to use a brake pedal wire because then the trailer brakes will not actuate when adaptive cruise control applies the brakes i.e. no brake pedal press. Are you able to help locate a source that will trigger braking even with cruise control braking? Thank you!

Hey Zach, so we haven't had the chance to install a brake controller in a 2018 Mazda CX-9 so we don't have the wire color for the stoplight circuit switch but we can still help. The easiest is to use a circuit tester like the part # PTW2993 to test all of the wires that lead to the brake pedal switch till you find the circuit that only has voltage when the brakes are applied. But when you connect to this you are simply attaching to the circuit and not cutting it and preventing it from going to the rest of the vehicle wiring like I think you might be thinking.

Or you could install a universal stoplight switch like the part # RM-751000 to give you a stoplight circuit without having to splice into the vehicle at all.
