Hello Doug. It sounds like you are looking for instructions for the old Curt Venturer 51110. The link below will show you the manufacturer instructions. I will admit though, I am not 100% sure what you mean by "detailed instructions for backing". If you can provide me with more clarification or specifics I am happy to help if I can.

Jesse M, I tow my 1860 Alumacraft boat on a tandem aluminum trailer. Approximate weight 4800 lbs with a surge brake system. I am required to lock surge brake to avoid activation when backing up hill. Do I need to disconnect my trailer plug from my vehicle when submerged or backing up hill to avoid damage to the controller?? Additionally, is there a procedure to check my non working controller to be assured that replacing it with a new one of same type and manufacturer will not also be distroyed. Tks again. My cell # 423 791 2705. Please advance inform me of your call if you choose to call.Thank you

@DouglasS We do recommend that you disconnect your trailer from the tow vehicle anytime you submerge the trailer. With normal backing up you do not need to do anything to the brake controller, you just need to lock out your surge actuator. Since the trailers brakes are surge actuated, the electric brake controller is not used when you are towing this trailer. Electric brake controllers are only used when towing trailers with electric or electric over hydraulic brakes.
