How To Run 7 Way Wiring From Truck Bumper To Slide-In Truck Bed Camper

Question:

I am looking to install a slide in camper in the bed of my truck. I have a 7 pin trailer connector in the bumper, and am looking for an extension cord to connect the camper plug at the front of the bed to the bumper ~8. I need the round pin connector on both sides not flat blades. Please let me know if you have a product that would work, or if I will have to custom fabricate a cable.

It's hard to say without any photos of your current plugs/connectors. Some slide-in campers like Lance use a proprietary plug that we wouldn't have. Your truck's 7 way is likely a standard one that has flat blades. You could use an extension like Hopkins 7-Way RV Style Connector with Molded Cable - Trailer End - 8' Long - RV Standard # H20046 and run the bare wires to your slide-in camper and rewire it to the camper's plug.

Understood. The 7 way plug on my bumper has pins, not blades, so I suspect it is an aftermarket solution installed by the previous owner. There is a smaller plug behind the bumper connecting the vehicle wiring to the 7 way plug (as well as a separate 5 way plug in parallel), but I have not been able to identify a standard connector that is compatible. Is there a directory of the different standard plug types, preferably by manufacturer, to help me identify the correct plug/harness?

@NickG Ok gotcha. You might be looking at something similar to Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # HM40125 which converts your factory wiring to a 4 way flat. Then someone may have converted that 4 way to a 7 way round pin like you have on your rig. You can go 1 on 2 ways here. 1 way is to Convert that 7 way pin connector to a 7 way blade connector with an adapter like Hopkins Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Pole Round Pin to 7-Pole RV # HM47425 then plug in the standard 7 way blade connector as I mentioned in the previous answer. 2nd way is to update the connector entirely and replace it with something like Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV Blade-Style Trailer Socket - Vehicle End # PK12-707E. It will then give you the industry-standard modern 7 way blade style. Then you can plug in the 7 way extension mentioned previously and run it up to the camper and hard wire it in or use an adapter there depending on the camper plug style.
