Which Brake Switch Wire is the Right One on a 2008 Chevy Express Van to Install a Brake Controller

Question:

Hi, I purchased your universal kit ETBC7 for a the trailer brake controller. I have a question about the brake light switch. I watched your video for the closest vehicle I own 2003 Express van but the connector is different on my 08, and Im getting something a bit weird. When I use the test light on the connector, I get one that stays lit all the time, one that stays lit but when the brake pedal is depressed, it goes out, and two more that show no power at all. Kinda confused, I thought you are supposed to have one that comes on when the brake pedal is depressed...Can you folks shed a little light on how to connect this thing up?

On a 2008 Chevy Express Van the wire on the brake switch you need should be a white wire but it could also be a light blue wire with a white strip. That is the correct wire from the cold side of the brake switch. The vehicle key will have to be on for it so show power with the brake pedal.

If you cannot locate the wire then make sure the stop light or CHMSL fuse is not blown. Use the owners manual to find the locations of fuses. If you cannot get a dedicated brake light only signal from the brake switch then you could use a fuse tap and get it from the CHMSL fuse provided the fuse does not power any other functions, such as hazards.
