Troubleshooting OC Flashing on a Hayes Engage Trailer Brake Controller
Question:
Hey, I have a 2001 tundra with the Hayes engage system installed. It has worked great especially hauling our horses around. I came home from work this morning and realized the passenger side turn signal and rear signal were stuck on. The turn signal still works, but the Hayes engage system is flashing OC which to my understanding is open circuit. Although I know these things I am stumped as to where I can fix this issue or what to do. Thanks!

First of all you are correct that the OC on the Hayes Engage Trailer Brake Controller # HA81760 does indicate an open circuit. This means the controller is not detecting a trailer or it could be connected to a trailer with electric over hydraulic brake system and needs to be switch to the hydraulic brake mode. If you are not connected to a trailer it is normal for the system to flash the OC error for a few minutes.
If you are connected to a trailer and it has electric brake assemblies but you are still getting the error code you may have a broken wire going from the controller to the trailer brakes. This could be on your vehicle or trailer so it may help to connect to another trailer with know good brakes to verify if the trailer or your Tundra is the issue.
I have linked the instructions for the brake controller near the bottom of the page if you need any further information on the controller.
